  • » And now they’re being pressured to give it up: Irving Picard, the trustee in charge of the insanely massive Bernie Madoff account, claims in a lawsuit that the Mets organization, represented by Sterling Equities, turned a blind eye to Madoff’s scheme and had plenty of opportunities to see red flags pop up. “The Sterling partners were simply in too deep – having substantially supported their businesses with Madoff money – to do anything but ignore the gathering clouds,” says the complaint first made public on Friday. Officials for the team call the claims “an outrageous strong-arm effort” at getting money out of them, and deny any wrongdoing.

Then Apple countersued. Nokia then went as far as asking the U.S. International Trade Commission to halt imports of Apple products. You know, how much does suing the hell out of one another solve? Nothing.

Tech: Remember the CrunchPad/Joojoo? Some lawsuit stuff just happened

  • Remember the CrunchPad? That thing that became the JooJoo without the branding of TechCrunch’s main dude? Of course you do. Anyway, some court stuff recently happened in the case, tossing away most of TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington’s claims, but keeping a big, important one: The companies were business partners and had responsibilities to one another. Fusion Garage, the guys behind the JooJoo, are idiots that totally cost themselves good press and overcharged for a device now forgotten in the iPad’s wake, but that’s besides the point. source

  • We’ve been sitting here scratching our heads for the last couple of days. We’re trying to understand how Facebook, a multibillion-dollar company, feels this small enterprise in Chicago is any type of threat.

Tech: Google vs. Oracle: One giant sues another over Java

  • In developing Android, Google knowingly, directly, and repeatedly infringed Oracle’s Java-related intellectual property. This lawsuit seeks appropriate remedies for their infringement.
  • An Oracle spokesperson • Discussing the lawsuit the company, which recently bought Java maker Sun, filed against Google over their use of Java code in their developer kit for Android. This is pretty bad for a lot of reasons – the most important being that lawsuits like this usually involve two-bit operations suing large companies over patents. In this case, Oracle is as big and respected as Google. While we’re guessing Oracle just wants a piece of the pie, this could end poorly for all involved. source
