Politics: Eric Cantor’s YouCut program: If nothing else, innovative

  • It feels like a Republican take on an Obama campaign tactic. The House Minority Whip has made the YouCut program a participatory way of getting involved in an activity everyone loves: Cutting wasteful spending in the federal government. Concerned citizens vote by text message, and the winner gets put up for a vote in the House. The top line item? Cutting the Presidential Election Fund, which John McCain took advantage of in 2008 but Obama didn’t. source

Politics: We analyzed Sarah Palin’s Facebook page for some reason

  • What kind of jokers post on her wall, anyway? We were curious, so we decided to dig in, and found that fans of “Going Rogue” and people who want her to run for President are most prevalent, but occasionally, she gets ripped on by her own conservative base. Why? Check out our latest AOL News article to find out. (Photo courtesy geerlingguy on Flickr.) source

Politics: McCain on Iran policy: U.S. needs to be willing to “pull the trigger”

  • I didn’t need a secret memo from Mr. Gates to ascertain that. We do not have a coherent policy… We have to be willing to pull the trigger on significant sanctions.
  • Sen. John McCain • Speaking on Fox News Sunday this morning. The senator claims that the secret memo leaked by the New York Times yesterday merely states the obvious. He wants to push for more sanctions, saying the U.S. has long held a loaded gun at Iran’s head but has been afraid to “pull the trigger.” Somebody likes using metaphors to get his point across! source

Politics: John McCain knows the guy who made “Demon Sheep”

  • Well, that’s a clever twist on the whole campaign ad. An ad by the other side, mocking stuff the one guy said. It was clearly made with no money and liberally infringes on copyright. But it might be just what McCain needs to stay in the race.

Politics: Rupert Murdoch on Fox News: Uh … Greta is a Democrat, right?

  • They are certainly there… Greta Van Susteren is certainly close to the Democratic Party. She doesn’t do many political stories. She is just a great journalist… but people who have been involved in Democratic politics and so on, yeah we have people…
  • News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch • On The Kalb Report, trying to remember if there are any Democrats on the Fox News staff, and struggling. He emphasized that Roger Ailes had a list handy. Murdoch was trying to make this point to emphasize that Fox News had support from both sides of the aisle. He made it clear, however, that other media outlets, particularly the New York Times, were biased towards Democrats. He also trashed on John McCain during the interview. Sure John liked that. source

Politics: Sarah Palin and John McCain: It’s like they changed roles

  • 2008 McCain, the highly-regarded Republican senator, plucks Sarah Palin out of obscurity to be his running mate. He loses.
  • 2010 Palin, who’s now the toast of the Tea Party movement, stumps for McCain, who’s now facing a tough Senate fight. source

Politics: Max Headroom: Rachel Maddow creates left-leaning warm fuzzies

  • Our favorite video Finally, we found a clip of this epic awesomeness. House Minority Whip Eric Cantor brought the Senate bill with him to the health care summit, and then Obama called him out for it.
  • After the fact …The other guy to get a bitch-smack at the health care summit on Thursday, John McCain, went on Hannity later that evening, and he complained a lot about Obama saying stuff that scared him.
  • Pants on fire? ooh Rachel Maddow knows how to talk, and the left knows how to listen. In this clip, Maddow talks about uncovering the “lie” of reconciliation, pointing out that it’s a great Republican myth.

Politics: Obama takes John McCain’s liver and throws it across the room

  • Man, Obama said this as if he had been waiting since the end of the presidential election to get this specific rip in on John McCain. Overall, we feel like Obama held his own in a tough crowd. Besides this, the best moment of the entire day was Obama telling Eric Cantor where to stick that huge pile of paper – a moment we can’t seem to find on YouTube, sadly. Was this mess productive? Of course not. But now Obama has his free pass to ignore them and pass the bill anyway using reconciliation. Thanks for being not helpful, right.

Politics: John McCain does a total flip-flop on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

  • flip Three years ago, John McCain made it clear that he’d support overturning “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” if military leaders said they were comfortable with changing it.
  • flop Today, McCain was presented with that exact scenario, but claimed it was the wrong time. He also noted the policy was “imperfect but effective.” Flip-flop! source

Politics: Sarah Palin called an idiot yet again – this time on “60 Minutes”

  • She still didn’t really understand why there was a North Korea and a South Korea. She was still regularly saying that Saddam Hussein had been behind 9/11.
  • John McCain’s 2008 campaign strategist, Steve Schmidt • Regarding Sarah “Going Rogue” Palin’s faults as a vice presidential candidate – and as a human being, really. Schmidt went further, saying she was woefully misinformed about policy issues and overly concerned about her political standing in Alaska on the day she had a key interview with Katie Couric. Despite this, Schmidt admits that if she wasn’t on the ticket, the campaign would’ve faltered even worse than it did. source
