U.S.: Mitt Romney pulled off health care in Massachusetts, no prob

  • And he did it without the public option. Three years ago, former Republican Massachusetts governor and likely 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney pushed health care reform through his state. It requires people to have health care, but gives help to the poor. And it’s popular – 7 in 10 really like it. It’s food for thought for sure, and a perfect arguing point for Romney. Watch him go: “You don’t have to have a public option. You don’t have to have the government getting into the insurance business to make it work.” source

“Since his controversial ousting from office …” Wait. Was there anything controversial about Rod’s impeachment, besides the fact that he didn’t like it? source

U.S.: Mark Sanford and Jenny Sanford: No longer under the same roof

  • Jenny (and her sons) moved out Friday. South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford continues to be on the outs with his wife Jenny, with the state’s First Lady moving her stuff out yesterday. She plans to take the kids back to Charleston, where they’ll attend school. Both husband and wife said this was for the best for now but said they planned to continue to work out family problems. Personally, we would have loved to see Mark move out into the doghouse. source

Politics: Arnold’s knife-wielding helped shrink California’s government

  • From the get-go, the governor was very tough in negotiations, and as a result we have a budget that substantially shrinks government. Conservatives have every reason to be overjoyed.
  • Republican Party officer Jon Fleischman • On California Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger’s hard-line approach to cutting California’s huge deficit. Schwartzenegger, a fiscal conservative, scored a huge political victory with the budget cuts. He closed off multiple roads to closing the gap (higher taxes weren’t an option, really) in an effort to make sure the cuts, in the end, meant smaller government. And he brandished a big knife in the process. • source

Politics, U.S.: Max Headroom special edition: Sarah Palin is f#(^ing crazy

  • The resignation video
  • Our analysis
0:05-0:09 – Sarah Palin’s speech, already crazy, takes a turn about here, linking the military to freedom of speech.
    0:09-0:14 – Oh God, please don’t.
0:23-0:51 – In your analysis of the press, could you be more bitingly cynical, Sarah?
0:52-1:04 – She just killed whatever credibility she had left with the press.
1:05-1:28 – Just don’t tell her crowd of supporters. They still love her.
1:29-1:38 – Trust us. Ricky Hollywood doesn’t regret his moment in the sun. source

U.S.: Alaskans aren’t happy with departing governor Sarah Palin

  • She has single-handedly and unnecessarily created both expensive issues.
  • Anchorage resident Jeanne Ashcraft • Describing her dual frustration with Sarah Palin’s departure on Sunday – for forcing an unnecessary day in session to both swear in the lieutenant governor and to decide whether to override Palin’s veto against energy stimulus funds. Ashcraft isn’t alone in her criticism – bloggers, legislators and others have also complained about the added costs. • source

Offbeat, U.S.: Ah-nold: You call that budget cuts? Well, this is a KNIFE!

  • It doesn’t even matter what Arnold Schwartzenegger said in this video. We got the idea in the first second and a half. The governor of California, fresh off $26 billion in budget cuts, is brandishing a big knife. You said it all with your actions, man.source

U.S.: Mark Sanford is on another undisclosed trip, this time WITH his wife

  • This trip is personal in nature, and we’re not going to offer any further comment. The governor remains committed to repairing the damage he’s done to his marriage, and so it shouldn’t be any surprise that spending personal time with his wife is a part of that process.
  • S.C. Governor Mark Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer • On his boss’ decision to leave the state for a week with his wife Jenny, not saying specifically where he’s going. Last time he did that, he was in the Appalachia…Argentina with another woman. But his wife wasn’t there. • source
