This actually happened in Georgia, when they claimed under the guise of a “simulation” that the Russian army was invading and the president had been killed. Great public service, guys. Offbeat: Tattoo mom gets all “Memento” on her kids, does it herself

  • I’m not breaking the skin. It’s going to fade away, it’s like a pen mark.
  • Patty “Jo Jo” Marsh • On tattooing her kids using a homemade device – a pen and a guitar string. After the biological mother of some of the six kids she tattooed complained, Marsh and her husband, Jacob Edward Bartels, couldn’t understand what they did wrong (you know, besides break Georgia law about tattooing children and homemade tattoos). “I love my children, we’d never do anything to harm our kids,” she continued. You know, besides tattoo your kids using a pen and a guitar string. source

Music: Vic Chesnutt dies: Singer-songwriter noted for fighting adversity

  • I’ve flirted with death my whole life. Even as a young kid I was sick and almost died a few times. … Sometimes I’d be angry that they revived me. I’d be like, ‘How dare you?’…But of course as the hours and days wear on, you realize, well, there is joy to be had.
  • Singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt • Who died yesterday after being in a coma this week. Chesnutt, 45, has had a long, sad history which often showed up in his well-regarded music. Wheelchair-bound by a car accident at 18, Chesnutt was discovered by R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe and later gained a huge following, best shown in the 1996 compilation “Sweet Relief II,” which featured alternative rock stars covering his tunes. Chesnutt, even in the tough times, was prolific – he released two albums this year alone – but the sadness around his life has now been accented by a Christmas death. Awful. source

  • I just got home. I was out last night. I got home just now, and everybody’s dead. … My whole family’s dead. It looks like they’ve been beaten to death.
  • Guy Heinze Jr. • In the 911 call he made Saturday morning in the wake of finding his family dead. The Brunswick, Ga. resident was arrested Sunday for having drugs (including marijuana), evidence tampering and obstructing justice. He’s not yet a suspect, although he hasn’t been ruled out. • source
