Tech: Fake Steve Jobs’ “Operation Chokehold” worthy of a FCC response

  • Threats of this nature are serious and we caution the public to use common sense and good judgment when accessing the Internet from their commercial mobile devices. To purposely try to disrupt or negatively impact a network with ill-intent is irresponsible and presents a significant public safety concern.
  • FCC Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau chief Jamie Barnett • Giving Fake Steve Jobs’ super-amusing mass-iPhone-overuse threat some steam by actually commenting on it. Fake Steve (a.k.a. Daniel Lyons) is amused. So are we. Surprisingly, the whole debacle has generated massive amounts of press for the site and AT&T in general, because, well, it’s funny. source

Politics: In this video, an Irish politician hilariously drops the F-bomb

  • We’d like to trust our readership enough to watch a video like this and not get offended by the fact that Irish Green Party politician Paul Gogarty loudly and violently says the F-word. (Rhymes with “truck.”) So let’s just say that the video above should not be played in your office with speakers on at full blast, unless your office happens to be really into Irish politics. Then it’s OK.

Offbeat: Some guy thinks he’s clever, brings his typewriter to a lecture

  • Well, that’s one way to protest against jerks typing on their laptops during class. This kid brought his typewriter. And it was so loud that it annoyed the entire class. The lesson here, laptop jockeys? Type louder. This guy needs to be put in his place.

Culture: The Muppets ring the bells for their “Bohemian” encore

  • Will the Muppets ever get old? No. Which is why this (and the recent “Bohemian Rhapsody” viral hit which had everyone and their mother talking) make us happy. Whoever decided to make the Muppets into viral sensations after years of neglect deserves a cookie and a pat on the head – this is the perfect format for their awesomeness.

Offbeat: The “Handjob”: Infomercials learn the value of a really dirty joke

  • Well, that makes the ShamWow guy seem tame. It’s official. This innuendo-laden, on-the-edge-of-safe-for-work infomercial is currently our favorite infomercial ever. Dang, and we wanted to buy a Magic Bullet, too.

Music: We hear “Shy Ronnie” is getting a lot of hype this morning

  • “Shy Ronnie, speak up!” Rihanna and Shy Ronnie (Andy Samberg) are yet another example of how SNL can totally knock it out of the park when given the opportunity. The Lonely Island are on a high right now – they were just nominated for a very real Grammy for “I’m On A Boat,” which was just about the only surprise the Grammy nominations had to offer.

Culture: Tiger’s voicemail could definitely be a bedroom jam, guys

  • Hey, uh, it’s Tiger. This may officially be the slow jam of the fourth quarter. Take your name off your phone. Just have it as a number.

Offbeat: All hail Zombie Reagan! All hail Zombie Reagan!

  • Personally, if we had Zombie Reagan as president, we’d vote for him. Well, after we, ourselves, turned into a zombie, of course.

Politics: Amusing: The White House’s war of sevens with Politico

  • seven Politico writes a story called “7 Stories Barack Obama Doesn’t Want Told.” It’s about as dry and harsh as it sounds.
  • seven The White House sends around an internal e-mail with their own, more hilarious, list of seven, which rips on Politico big-time. source
