World: They’re accused of espionage in North Korea. They’re journalists.

  • And they’re being “treated well.” In case you watch news channel Current TV, you may be familiar with reporter Laura Ling. Ling, along with news editor Euna Lee, is currently being held by North Korea on charges of espionage after accidentally crossing into the country from China on March 17. The U.S. is trying to help them, but in a low-key fashion, because, well, it’s North Korea. And North Korea is trying to do things like launch a satellite into orbit. source

Biz: A charge too far: US Airways stops charging for drinks

  • $1 for coffee, $2 for soda or water? The airline, in a desire to cut costs and bring in new sources of revenue to fend off bankruptcy, did things that other airlines did – charge for checked baggage, premium seats and using frequent-flier miles to book tickets. But charging for a soda seemed a bit much to most people, so in a memo to employees, CEO W. Douglas Parker said they would back off of the policy starting March 1. Kudos to them for realizing that there’s a limit to nickel-and-diming customers. source

Offbeat, Tech: Oh God, did someone have to invent the term “sexting”?

  • Sexting leads to child porn charges. Sexting, as you might guess, is people taking naked photos of themselves on their cell phones and sharing them with their friends. It’s led to charges in Pennsylvania for both the three teenage girls charged with sending the photos and the, er, um, three lucky teenage boys who got the photos. Note to press: Please stop inventing terms. :( source
