Culture: Coming to your town soon: Conan O’Brien, officially on tour

  • We’re super-excited for this. Are you? Rumored for weeks, Conan just announced on Twitter that he’s going on tour. What’s the tour called, you ask? “The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour.” It’s gonna be awesome. And we’d pay a ton of money to see him. Teamcoco.com has been registered by Conan’s staff, by the way. source

Offbeat: Granny DJ: Officially our new hero. Go away, Epic Beard Man

  • Yo Grandma! Get out the booth! Seriously, though, this British grandma knows how to mash some bangers better than we do, and that deserves some mad props. We hope she releases an album of French house that’s better than Justice’s.

Tech: At least one publisher gets how awesome iPad books can be

  • The iPad represents the first real opportunity to create a paid distribution model that will be attractive to consumers. The psychology of payment on tablets is different to the psychology on a PC.
  • Penguin Books CEO John Makinson • Regarding what he sees as the future of books. What’s that future of books? Well, in the case of the children’s books he used as an example, a really fun, educational experience, the kind of thing everyone was hoping for with the iPad when it was first suggested (but Apple forgot to show when announcing it). This looks really awesome, Penguin Books. source

Culture: Roger Ebert will start “talking” again on Oprah. Whoa.

Ebert did some commentary tracks before he lost his voice. Those tracks were used to create a computerized Ebert voice, which will hit Oprah tomorrow. Whoa. source

Politics: Obama takes John McCain’s liver and throws it across the room

  • Man, Obama said this as if he had been waiting since the end of the presidential election to get this specific rip in on John McCain. Overall, we feel like Obama held his own in a tough crowd. Besides this, the best moment of the entire day was Obama telling Eric Cantor where to stick that huge pile of paper – a moment we can’t seem to find on YouTube, sadly. Was this mess productive? Of course not. But now Obama has his free pass to ignore them and pass the bill anyway using reconciliation. Thanks for being not helpful, right.

Music: Every time we see Michael Jackson’s kids, it’s a big scene

  • Prince Michael Jackson did a great job of speaking in front of a massive crowd, all the more impressive because we don’t think we’ve ever actually seen the dude. Paris, who you remember from Jackson’s funeral, holds up well. Either way, this moment (where they accept Jackson’s Lifetime Achievement Award) is, again, great television. source

World: Someone else got pulled out of the rubble in Haiti. Whoa.

This man was pulled out of the rubble – alive. It’s not clear if he was done in by the two-week-old quake or an aftershock, but it’s clear it was amazing. source

Offbeat: In Japan, cats attack giant bears and win. Awesome!

  • We know that we post a lot of cat videos, but most of them don’t offer the awesome sight of a bear getting shamed by a freaking cat. See that? That’s bear shame. In Japanese. With Japanese captions which we won’t bother translating.
