Tech: Do Apple’s iPhone 4 design flaws extend to the glass?

  • So yeah, another iPhone mini-crisis: So, these cases are designed to protect your iPhone from the elements, but they may actually have the opposite effect. Why? Well, if through normal use, something gets under the case, as has been known to happen, it could cause scratches to the case. Bad enough, but factor in the iPhone 4’s glass back, and you have possible breakage. They reportedly had to take a bunch of cases out of the Apple Store as a preemptive measure. • See that car in the middle with the weird crap on top of it? Well, we’re gonna let you in on a secret: Nobody is driving it. No person, that is. That car is being driven by Google’s artificial intelligence, which can detect cars and traffic patterns without any trouble. There was only one accident in the various tests, and it wasn’t even caused by Google’s car (it was rear-ended). The fuel they’re using? Ed Begley Jr.’s sense of self-satisfaction. source

Tech, World: Thanks, Libya: Bit.ly links could become a thing.ly of the past.ly

  • standing out, clever.ly A popular way to make your name stand out nowadays is to have the domain end in .ly, something hugely popular Twitter-centric services such as Bit.ly and Hootsuite (though its ow.ly and ht.ly services) have taken advantage of. The two-letter length also helps. Oh yeah, Mitt Romney uses it for his mitt.ly domain.
  • unfortunate.ly for themPerhaps this wasn’t thought through all the way, because the .ly domain is owned by Libya, a country not exactly known for its sparkling human rights record. And the country is upset about all the NSFW links that get shared on the services, putting entire business models in danger. Uh-oh. source
