Tech: Google TV’s new remote control a multi-button monstrosity

  • Would you use this thing to control your television? We’re not sure either. It looks like an epically confusing controller along the lines of the Atari Jaguar‘s epic 17-button monstrosity. But a recent Nightline report on Google TV briefly revealed this thing to the world. Wow, that’s a lot of buttons, isn’t it? source

Tech: Flipboard proves that early success can really suck sometimes

  • Some of our engineers have slept only 3 hours in the last 48. We want to make Flipboard awesome for everyone
  • A tweet from @flipboard • Regarding the just-launched iPad news app which has proven so popular that you can’t even use it properly. As of this morning, you can’t connect your Facebook or Twitter accounts, and for a while, even the news in the app wasn’t loading. A victim of its own success? Possibly. The free iPad app is better than Pulse, which costs $2.99, and is currently the top free app in the app store. Our suggestion to Flipboard? Start charging for it. You’ll weed out the hangers-on. source

U.S.: D.C. is drowning in snow, along with the rest of the East Coast

  • We are going to throw everything we have at it to keep the district open for business on this busy pre-holiday weekend.
  • D.C. mayor Adrian Fenty • On the large amount of snow that’s forcing us to type this from our #(&@!(& apartment instead of heading outside into the world at large. The Mid-Atlantic region is currently looking at 10-20″ of snow, which is like nothing if you live in Minnesota, but these jerks don’t know how to drive down here, which makes things a bit dicier. source

Biz, Politics: Yo Apple, mind not putting this massive ad on every site?

We get it. It’s a big ad. And it’s cool and well-done. But it’s on all of our favorite sites. All of them. source

Offbeat, Sports: A 100-0 loss in girls’ basketball? Pssh, we really won!

  • My girls never quit. They played as hard as they could to the very end. They played with all their hearts at 70-nothing, 80-nothing and 100-nothing.
  • Jeremy Civello • Dallas Academy athletic director, on a 100-0 high school girls’ basketball loss that he’s way too freakin’ optimistic about. The Texas school, which deals with students with a variety of learning problems, pulled the team from the league shortly thereafter, and the opposing team calls the score an embarrassment – on their part. • source
