Politics: Sarah Palin’s California speech notable for who didn’t show up

  • presentSarah Palin’s speech at a GOP rally in California drew a number of supporters willing to donate $25 a plate to hear the former Alaska governor speak.
  • absent However, California’s two key GOP candidates – Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman – didn’t show up, even though they were invited. Hmm. Scheduling conflicts, eh? source
  • » Notable phrase of the night: Palin is so optimistic about the GOP’s chances next month that she used the phrase “soon, we’ll all be dancing” to express her joy. Hopefully the Republicans have a better dancer than Bristol …

Politics: Terry Jones threatened to burn the Koran. His prize? A free car.

  • dumb Anti-Muslim Florida pastor Terry Jones sparked an annoying national controversy after threatening to burn the Koran on 9/11.
  • smart A New Jersey car dealership offered Jones a new car if Jones didn’t burn the Koran. Jones didn’t do it, but not for that reason.
  • dumb Weeks after the incident, Jones’ church called the car dealership to see if the deal was still valid. It was. And now Jones is getting a free car. source
  • » So, what did he get? Jones got a 2011 Hyundai Accent, valued at $13,600. Which in some ways makes us sick to our stomachs. This guy created one of the craziest trumped-up controversies of the past year, and he stands to benefit financially. Disgusting.

  • Obama Attorney General Eric Holder • In a pledge he made to uphold the nation’s marijuana laws even as California appears to be heading towards legalization with Prop 19. Yo, Eric, you wanna get a hit of this? You need to mellow out, man. It’s not that bad. source

Politics, U.S.: The most unfortunate (yet hilarious) typo in politics

  • the green party candidate for Governor of Illinois is named “Rich Whitney.” However, due to a big mistake (or intentional shenanigans) on someone’s part, his name will be misspelled as “Rich Whitey” on some electronic voting machines – about half of them in predominantly African-American areas. What’s worse, election officials say it’s too late to correct the error. Whitney is contemplating legal action (rightfully so, if you ask us). source

Offbeat, Politics: Sarah Palin invokes unicorns, pixie dust in attack on Dems

  • [Democrats] act like they’re permanent residents of a unicorn ranch in fantasyland if they really think they’re gonna be able to turn it around with the liberal policies they have to continue, and you know, it’s pixie dust.
  • Sarah Palin • At a speech in California, although with a quote like that, the context is irrelevant. She also commended California for being the only state that “puts a mama grizzly on its flag.” Good Lord. source

Politics: Credit where credit’s due: Sharron Angle held her own last night

  • You’re one of the richest men in the U.S. Senate. Now on behalf of Nevada taxpayers, I would like to know, we would like to know, how did you become so wealthy on a government payroll?
  • Sharron Angle • In one of many attacks she made against Nevada Senator Harry Reid last night. Let’s face it, while she didn’t necessarily win last night, she stood toe to toe with one of the country’s most powerful Senators. It’s a performance that makes Christine O’Donnell’s debate work seem laughable in comparison. While Reid was probably right to call some of Angle’s views “extreme,” the fact of the matter is she didn’t embarrass herself like many people might have expected given her press-evasiveness. source

Politics: Alvin Greene LOLs continue: Reporter victim of Greene’s rabbit ears

  • This clip is so fresh that it hasn’t made its way to YouTube at all. Until now (we just uploaded it). Our friend Larry Crider sends along this clip of Alvin Greene randomly showing up on a live newscast giving a reporter rabbit ears. He’s wearing a Greene for Senate shirt, by the way. In other news, Jim DeMint started the recession. (Update: We initially posted a longer version of the clip with much more context. Here’s the 30-second version, begging for views.) source
