World: The wannabe Times Square bomber has his own Talibanesque video

  • The attack on the United States will be a revenge for all the mujahedeen and oppressed Muslims. Eight years have passed since the Afghanistan war and you shall see how the Muslim war has just begun and how Islam will spread across the world.
  • Attempted Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad • Talking in a video shot prior to the attack, which partly aired on Al-Arabiya today. The video appears to be the handiwork of Umar Media, a part of the Pakistan Taliban, which probably explains a lot about the dude’s motives. source

U.S.: Iroquois lacrosse players find nebulous space without passports

  • Somehow, a tribe that recognizes lacrosse as a sport doesn’t recognize passports. Members of the Iroquois lacrosse team, who had gotten a one-time waiver from the U.S. government, couldn’t get the same from the British government. The tribe uses their own non-standard passports, not American ones, creating a weird area even beyond the realm of exception. (Oh yeah: In case you’re wondering: Lacrosse originated with the Iroquois and Huron tribes, not douchey high school students.) source

Politics: Obama’s economic stimulus PR tour not going to be much fun

  • I wish he’d save his money and not come to Western Michigan. They were just swiping a Chinese charge card for it anyway, and my kid’s got to pick up the tab.
  • Holland, Mich. business co-owner Becky DeWind • Throwing up some major criticism of Obama’s stimulus plan, which helped her business, but was fleeting. DeWind’s firm got a $95,000 contract due to the stimulus to clean radioactive waste, but it apparently was the only U.S. contract they got last year. Obama’s polling low at the moment, and although he’s headed to that region tomorrow, he’s unlikely to find many friends. *pat pat* There there, Obama. Just remember that you’re close to Chicago, where your people are. source

Tech: Parody video: Apple ignores older phones in its iOS updates

  • Apple has a new beta of iOS 4 coming down the pipe to deal with the dropped calls angering iPhone 4 users, but the old users seem to have a legitimate beef. The guy who made this video, Adam Burtle, says that his phone only started feeling slow after he upgraded to the new iOS. “Apple’s firmware has become bloated, with respect to the processing power of the 3G iPhone,” he writes. We’re on iOS 3 still, and we’ve noticed a lot of lag lately. This guy isn’t alone.

Politics: Rep. Jerrold Nadler is a guy who stiffs cabbies on their fares

  • He said I will not pay you if you don’t take me running the same meter which we came with.
  • Unlucky cabbie Abraham Habteab • About a minor scandal which happened under his watch – Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York skipped out on a cab ride, because he was ticked about the fare. Nadler was in the wrong – Habteab was in the right to restart the meter, and charge for the wait time caused by Nadler going to a nearby hotel. Dude, just pay the guy. You know you can afford it. source

Tech: Microsoft resorts to paying developers to make mobile apps

  • Translation: We’re desperate to play with Google and Apple. In a pretty implicit admission that they’re playing catch-up, the company plans to pay developers to help give Windows Phone 7 an early push. Why this strategy? Well, some developers may not be willing to program for an untested platform if they’re not convinced people are going to use it. It’s a good idea for Microsoft, but they can only get away with it because they’re Microsoft. source
