World: The wannabe Times Square bomber has his own Talibanesque video

  • The attack on the United States will be a revenge for all the mujahedeen and oppressed Muslims. Eight years have passed since the Afghanistan war and you shall see how the Muslim war has just begun and how Islam will spread across the world.
  • Attempted Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad • Talking in a video shot prior to the attack, which partly aired on Al-Arabiya today. The video appears to be the handiwork of Umar Media, a part of the Pakistan Taliban, which probably explains a lot about the dude’s motives. source

U.S.: Faisal Shahzad’s guilty plea has a little extra for conspiracy kooks

  • It’s a war. I am part of the answer to the US terrorizing the Muslim nations and the Muslim people.
  • Wannabe Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad • Using fighting words during his guilty plea, which he verified 100 times over. He said that if the U.S. didn’t leave Iraq and Afghanistan, “we will be attacking US.” So put that in your pipe and smoke it. The dude can’t even build a proper car bomb! (In other news, we’ve had an open-and-shut terror attempt in the time that the oil spill has been spewing.) source

World: Britain: We shouldn’t have released the Lockerbie bomber

  • The sight of a mass murderer getting a hero’s welcome in Tripoli is deeply upsetting, deeply distressing, above all for the 270 families who grieve every day for the loss of their loved ones 21 years ago.
  • British Foreign Secretary David Miliband • Criticizing Scotland’s decision to let Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi go early. Many were critical of the U.S.’ why-didya-let-him-go feelings on the matter, until they saw that the Libyan government allowed for a rare public gathering outside of Meghrai’s plane to celebrate his release. • source

U.S., World: The Lockerbie bomber is now a free (though very ill) man

  • Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi was released by a Scottish court today. Megrahi, a Libyan national, is suffering from terminal prostate cancer and only has a short time to live. So the court set him free on compassionate grounds. He’ll likely be with family within hours. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was critical of the release before it happened, saying, “We are still encouraging the Scottish authorities not to do so and we hope that they will not.” The Lockerbie bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 killed 270 people in 1988. source
