Culture: Could Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston get back together?

  • I believe that wherever possible, if the parents can cooperate and co-parent in a positive way, the child will benefit. Levi and I are turning a new page here as co-parents to this wonderful boy and putting aside the past because doing so is in Tripp’s best interest.
  • Bristol Palin • Talking on “Good Morning America” about working together with Levi Johnston on parenting. There are some claims the new leaf goes even further, to the point where the two are a couple again, but that would probably mean that Ricky Hollywood would have to avoid going back to Hollywood for the rest of his life. Which is a world we don’t want to live in. source

U.S.: WTF: Seattle cop punches girl in face OVER JAYWALKING

  • Does not matter what kind of cop you are. Does not matter the situation. Does not even matter that the girls were being resistant. Definitely DOES matter that it happened in broad daylight in front of a large group of people. Jaywalking is an offense that does not lead to punching. This cop should get fired. source

Biz: Manufacturers use low interest rates to ramp up production

  • 1.2% boost in May’s industrial production levels source
  • » Why this is important: If companies are building more stuff, that means more jobs. However, it’s contingent on people buying the new stuff in stores. Manufacturers will only be able to keep building supplies if demand continues to increase. However, the current low interest rates at least help encourage companies to create supply when they otherwise wouldn’t.

U.S.: Hippie takeover: D.C.’s plastic bag tax, S.F.’s cell phone radiation law

  • 5¢ amount shoppers have to pay to get a plastic bag at any store in D.C.; yes, it’s annoying, but at least it’s encouraging people to use fabric bags instead source
  • $300 amount cell phone companies could soon pay in San Francisco for not posting information about cell phone radiation levels; this also sounds annoying source

Offbeat: Alternate plot line to “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure” involves puppy

  • Remember this scene right here? It’s a pretty awesome scene from one of our favorite movies. Now, imagine that Mr. Herman was a German college student. And that, instead of (immediately after this scene) dancing on a bar stool to “Tequila,” he threw a puppy at them. Then he got away on a bulldozer. And then caused a huge traffic jam. Well, stop imagining, because it actually happened. Minus Pee-Wee. source

Culture: The saga of Perez Hilton, Miley Cyrus and possible child porn

  • yes Perez Hilton recently posted a non-flattering shot of Miley Cyrus on Twitter.
  • no It did not look like she was wearing any underwear in the photo. *facepalm*
  • yes She’s only 17, which technically makes the saucy image child porn. *wince*
  • no That isn’t legal, and Hilton could be prosecuted for the image. *more wincing*
  • yes Hilton later denied the claims, saying she was in fact wearing underwear. source

Politics: Mitch McConnell on Obama’s speech: Don’t bring up climate change

  • Every day seems to bring more bad news about the size and scope of this crisis, and reversing that trend should be the president’s priority. The White House may view this oil spill as an opportunity to push its agenda in Washington, but Americans are more concerned about what it plans to do to solve the crisis at hand.
  • Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell • Emphasizing that climate change that Obama anchored tonight’s address on didn’t actually do anything about the problem currently on the ground. Which, let’s admit it, is both true and what Mitch was going to say. We don’t disagree with him but think the issues aren’t so clear-cut. source
