Politics: Obama knows how to make Sarah Palin sound like a friggin’ fool

  • I really have no response, because last I checked, Sarah Palin’s not much of an expert on nuclear issues.
  • President Barack Obama • Speaking to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in the wake of the Nuclear Posture Review, which as we noted earlier, is being incorrectly portrayed by some (including Palin) as out of lockstep with prior U.S. diplomatic policy. Obama, who built his nuclear policy with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Michael Mullen, got in another rip on the former vice-presidential candidate, too: “I’m probably going to take my advice from them, and not from Sarah Palin.” Ouch. source

Biz: We’re gonna use this post to link to the Nikkei’s home page

  • Why? Because they say we can’t. The Japanese business newspaper is following the lead of a lot of newspapers worldwide by adding a paywall, but their paywall is way beyond that of, say, the Wall Street Journal. First, you have to submit a written application to link to the site (which we didn’t do). And second, they’ve gone and disabled the copy function on their site. Why? Because they’ve seen American papers open the floodgates and lose readership as a result. source

Politics: The Daily Show: Obama’s, Reagan’s nuclear policy the same

  • Just don’t let Fox News tell you otherwise. It’s kind of sad/hilarious that Jon Stewart has to point out the blatant lying taking place on Fox regarding Obama’s nuclear policy. Newt Gingrich and Sean Hannity, in particular, are bold-faced in their dishonesty.

Culture: We hope it’s a rumor: Robert Pattinson as Kurt Cobain?

  • David Fincher would direct, so at least that’s good. Take this with a grain of salt, but scummy British tabloid The Sun is reporting (and it’s being repeated elsewhere) that a new Nirvana movie is being made, starring “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson as the alternative rock icon, and Scarlett Johansson as Courtney Love. The Nirvana story is one we’d rather not see a studio screw up, so let’s hope The Sun lives up to its rep in this case. source

U.S.: Bart Stupak, John Paul Stevens: Today’s a good day for liberals to retire

  • Stupak Apparently worn out from the health care debate, where he played a front-and-center role, he plans to retire at the end of this term.
  • Stevens The liberal justice, almost 90, had been considering this decision for months. Now he’s firmly decided – he retires this Summer.
