Offbeat: Here’s a photo of big dog Giant George at a fittingly giant size

  • Giant George is the world’s tallest dog. He’s also freaking awesome. At 43 inches tall, the Great Dane could jump all over you and kick your butt. Guinness World Records made a great choice in giving Giant George the kind of pulpit fit for Yao Ming or Andre the Giant. source

Tech: How the Lower Merion webcam-spying sausage was made

  • The dude talking on this clip, Mike Perbix, is the network tech for Lower Merion School District. In this webcast, he’s talking about the spying software installed on all of the machines given to students at Harriton High School, called LanREV. He’s promoting the product, which tells you exactly how invested Perbix was in this technology. Did it ever hit him, or the district, that parents and students might be really pissed about this? The author of the blog post investigating LanREV, by the way, tells you how to remove it in a later post. He calls it a trojan. source
  • Update: Oh, and the kid who got in trouble for reportedly using drugs? He was eating Mike & Ike candy. This school district is run by an institution of idiots.

Biz: Vudu: Walmart decides it, too, wants a spot in your living room

  • It bought set-top-box maker Vudu today. Walmart isn’t exactly known as a living room fixture other than the fact that you can buy all the crap for your living room at a Walmart. Well, until now. With the purchase of Vudu, it now has a way of distributing entertainment directly to the consumer outside of the loss-leader format it relies on to sell DVDs. “The real winner here is the customer,” said Walmart vice chairman Eduardo Castro-Wright.
