U.S., World: 303 people. 19 states. One drug cartel. Decimated.

La Familia Michoacana is one of Mexico’s strongest drug cartels. Well it was, until U.S. authorities stopped by en masse and arrested everyone. Good jobs. source

Culture: New York: Please stop making examples of celebrities like Lil Wayne

  • First Plaxico, now the rap star. Not cool. Thanks in part to New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, the state has some of the strictest laws on the books when it comes to gun possession. Plaxico Burress at least shot off his gun before he got a two-year jail sentence for gun possession. Unfortunately for Lil Wayne, though, he was nicked with “attempted gun possession” and will face as much as a year. As a non-resident of the state, he was unaware of the law, but simply being unaware of the law is not a good enough reason. Not that we’re suggesting he should’ve been in possession of the gun, but jail time for this is unbelievable. For shame, New York state. source

Politics, World: A sampling of some of the quotes Nick Griffin faced

  • Sir Winston Churchill put everything on the line so that my ancestors wouldn’t get slaughtered in the concentration camps. But here sits a man who says that is a myth just like a flat world was a myth.
  • A “Question Time” audience member • Refuting a claim by British National Party head Nick Griffin that compared the deaths in the Holocaust were an “Orthodox myth,” much like the world being flat. Griffin also said that if Churchill was alive today, he would be a member of the controversial white-supremacist party. • source

Politics: Nick Griffin is the Rush Limbaugh of the U.K. Here’s proof.

  • Nick Griffin, 2009 Griffin was faced with some unbelievably harsh criticism when he showed up on the BBC’s “Question Time” today. It was a major event. And Griffin came out of it looking the fool.

  • Rush Limbaugh, 1990 Nearly two decades ago, Limbaugh guest-hosted an episode of “The Pat Sajak Show” – a tryout for a regular show, really – where he faced similar results. Just saying.

Politics: The Rev. Al Sharpton and The Rev. Jesse Jackson not interchangeable

  • I mean, come on! They’re both reverends! They’re both iconic black leaders! The question, though: Would Al get as uppity if he were mistaken for Jesse?

U.S., World: A senior Iranian official dumps cold water on that nuke deal

  • They (the West) tell us: you give us your 3.5 percent enriched uranium and we will give you the fuel for the reactor. It is not acceptable to us. The IAEA is obliged to provide us with the fuel based on the safeguards.
  • Deputy Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Reza Bahonar • Describing why he’s against the agreement the International Atomic Energy Agency worked up to send low-enriched uranium to other countries for further enriching. If it goes through, it could be a huge diplomatic win for the U.S. Word is that Iran might try to work some amendments to the deal, but it could fall flat completely if Iran crosses what the U.S. describes as “red lines” designed to make sure Iran’s not making nuclear weapons. • source
