Sports: Talking soon: Michael Vick, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell

  • Guess Vick may not be the guy speaking at high schools. Formerly-jailed NFL star Michael Vick and Roger Goodell are apparently going to chat soon, according to some of those anonymous sources we shouldn’t put all our faith into. Goodell could cut off Vick’s suspension, keep it going, or do something in-between. Either way, it’s entirely possible we might see Vick, who served hard time for his dog-fighting crimes, in a NFL uniform next season. source

Offbeat: People say the dumbest things at job interviews

  • When you do background checks on candidates, do things like public drunkenness arrests come up?
  • A job interviewee, when asked if they had any questions • That big idiot, along with 42 other idiots (who said such wonderful things as “What do you want me to do if I cannot walk to work if it’s raining? Can you pick me up?” and “I saw the job posted on Twitter and thought, why not?”) are a big part of the reason why the unemployment level is so high in this country. Right? Anyway, read this list and laugh, kids. Laugh. • source

Biz, Tech: TechDirt approaches blogging like tech-savvy musicians

  • If only we could do this. Then we’d truly be smart. TechDirt, a popular technology blog well-known for taking the music industry to task for its heavy-handed approach to technology, has gone out of its way to champion artists who have fully embraced the promotional tool technology can be, such as Trent Reznor and Jill Sobule. Now, they’ve gone a step further and used these very techniques as tools to promote the site. Give a donation of a certain amount, and you can become a member of the site’s music club or book club and get tons of amazing goodies. Give a bit more and the site will review your business model. Genius, kids. Genius. *golf clap* source

Politics, U.S.: Katie Couric asked Obama the biggest softball we’ve ever heard

  • You’re so confident, Mr. President. And so focused. Is your confidence ever shaken, do you ever wake up and say, ‘Damn, this is hard! Damn, I’m not going to get the things done that I want to get done,’ and it’s just too politicized to get anything done?
  • Katie Couric • In an “Early Show” interview with President Barack Obama. Originally, we were going to pull the quote in response to Couric’s more-hardball question about Obama’s vacation time (which you should still go to the link and read), but then we saw this and simply had to criticize it. Katie, you’re interviewing the president, not a Hollywood actor. The standard for question-asking needs to be a little higher than, “Is your job too hard?” • source
