Offbeat: Your business card isn’t as cool as this guy’s.

  • “It doesn’t fit in a rolodex because it doesn’t belong in a rolodex.” This may perhaps be our all-time favorite video on YouTube, because we like rewarding idiots for their idiocy.source

Culture, Music: “Idol” champ David Cook wins the “bravest person” award

  • I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor, and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now.
  • “Amercian Idol” winner David Cook • At D.C.’s Race for Hope 5K, which he was grand-marshaling the day after his brother Adam died. Adam, who was married with a family, had been fighting brain cancer for a decade. As you might expect, he fought back tears when saying this. This makes us really sad. :( • source

U.S.: Obama’s election has helped thaw race relations even more

  • I’ve been working downtown for 30 years, so I’ve got a good feeling for it. Since President Obama started campaigning, if I go almost anywhere, it’s: ‘Hi! Hello, how are you, sir?’ I’m talking about strangers. Calling me ‘sir.’
  • Milwaukee resident Samuel Sallis • On the change in people’s treatment of him since Obama started running for president. Sallis isn’t alone. Nearly two-thirds of Americans think race relations are improving in this country, with double the number of blacks agreeing with that statement than previously. Despite fears that Obama’s election would build energy towards extremist anti-black sentiment (with white supremacist groups using it as a recruitment tool), the change has been largely positive so far. • source

Music, Tech: Trent Reznor’s NIN app got rejected. The reason? His music.

  • “The Downward Spiral” was cited as the specific reason for rejection. The latest version of Trent Reznor’s iPhone app, “NIN Access,” was blocked from the App Store for its content. Which is strange because the content is largely the same as the original version of the app. When Reznor heard the reason, he responded (via Tweet), “Not even sure where to start with that one.” The iPhone App Store’s rejection process has long been criticized for this specific reason. source

World: Sri Lanka aims its barbs at the West in its Tamil Tigers fight

  • Never did history unmask the hypocrisy and the sanctimony of the Western powers than (it has in) their behavior towards Sri Lanka during recent times.
  • The Sri Lankan Defense Ministry • In a post on their web site. The ministry complained of Western nations putting pressure on them to cease-fire in their assault on the Tamil Tigers, who they have close to defeat. Much of the attention on the conflict has focused on the huge amounts of civilians caught in the crossfire, rather than the conflict itself. • source
