Biz, U.S.: CNBC’s Rick Santelli: He’s Internet famous now

  • 1.7 million Internet viewers can’t be wrong! Santelli, who went on a memorable (though polarizing) tirade against Obama’s foreclosure plan on Thursday, has drawn millions of viewers and a White House response to all that stuff he said. Press secretary Robert Gibbs bluntly proclaimed that Santelli “doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” Which should be a compliment to him at this point. Who knows? He may get his Chicago Tea Party yet. source

Culture: Tyler Perry: Finding a balance that’s made him millions

  • As a little boy I would feel so helpless watching this man beat my mother. I would sit in the corner covering my ears wanting the madness to stop. … That’s still hard to think about.
  • Tyler Perry • On the melodrama that informs his work, including the recent “Madea Goes to Jail,” even during moments of levity. It’s an approach that hasn’t won him many fans among critics, but it’s made him incredibly popular without their support. • source

U.S.: An 11-year-old boy allegedly murdered his dad’s gf? Yikes!

  • This is something that you wouldn’t even think of in your worst nightmare, that you’d have to charge an 11-year-old with homicide. It’s heinous, the whole situation.
  • John Bongivengo • District Attorney of Lawrence County, Pa., on the boy, who allegedly killed his father’s pregnant 26-year-old girlfriend, Kenzie Marie Houk, on Friday. The unborn child also died. • source

U.S.: Two states, two approaches to the stimulus

  • Mississippi: Ehhhh … Governor Haley Barbour, a Republican, says he won’t take some of the allocated funds for his state if it means extra costs for Mississippi down the road. He specifically noted the unemployment tax, which might force the state to pick up the tab for increased benefits. “I mean, we want more jobs,” Barbour said. “You don’t get more jobs by putting an extra tax on creating jobs.” source

  • Massachusetts: Bring it on! Democratic Governor Deval Patrick, on the other hand, has zero qualms with taking a ton of stimulus cash, if it means building up the state’s – and by extension, the country’s – infrastructure. He specifically mentioned roads. “Whether governors say they will or won’t take this or that as part of the stimulus bill, in some ways, is irrelevant,” Patrick said. “People want that help.” source

U.S.: The Feds and Roland Burris have a nice fireside chat

  • Wonder what they talked about. Burris, who had delayed the chat for several weeks, was asked by the Feds about his role in the Rod Blagojevich scandal, which saw the former Illinois governor try to sell Burris’ current Senate seat for profit or personal gain. Rod got kicked out last month, but now Burris is a giant question mark due to his recent admission that he actively campaigned to raise funds for Blagojevich. Burris faces no criminal charges – well, in this probe. source

Culture: The Razzies name a new set of crapsterpieces

  • She is the 21st century Zsa Zsa Gabor. She is famous for who she hangs out with. She’s not famous for any talent she has yet exhibited. She may end up working with Uwe Boll. She could be the head vampire in ‘Bloodrayne 3.’
  • John Wilson • Razzies founder, on this year’s “winners,” including Paris Hilton and Uwe Boll, both of whom came out stinking last night. The big “winner,” though, was Mike Myers’ “The Love Guru,” which walked away with Worst Picture. • source
