Politics: Harry Reid’s survival tactic: He just plans to let Sharron Angle talk

  • Reid had no chance to win before. He has a shot to win now. He could still lose, but I have to say he is favored.
  • Nevada Republican Senate primary candidate Danny Tarkanian • Explaining why Sharron Angle has given Reid a chance to survive his primary. And Reid is taking full advantage: “Our focus groups that we’ve done, my staff tells me this — her statements, they can’t believe that anyone would say that,” Reid said. “That’s why most of our TV just has her talking.” Because you can’t top people saying stupid things as entertainment. source

Politics: Unlucky Tea Partiers in Oregon unfamiliar with 4chan

A very unfortunate chain of events for the Oregon Tea Party, who shut down their Facebook page and closed off their Web site after 4chan got a hold of this. source

Politics: Tea Party Express ditches Mark Williams over really misguided idea

  • Dumb move by mark williams In response to the NAACP’s chiding of the Tea Party, Tea Party Express leader Mark WIlliams wrote a blog post in the guise of a slave pretending to thank Abraham Lincoln for slavery. He called it satire. It was universally criticized, even by his own side.
  • Smart move by mark williams Realizing that the post was really dumb and hurt the Modern Tea Party movement as a whole, Williams resigned from the Tea Party Express. He says he’ll still remain part of the movement, but not hog the spotlight as its most well-known member. It’s for the best. source

Politics: When The Onion plays it subtle, Tea Partiers get fooled

  • You’d think that the Onion logo on this years-old video would hint to people that this is actually a satire. Or the fact that keeps repeating the word “classified.” Or the fact that he’s clearly talking about flesh-eating zombies. But no. In fact, this clip has been repeatedly posted on Facebook as if it’s actually real and confirming the Modern Tea Party’s greatest nightmare. Too subtle?

Politics: A “Tea Party caucus”? Many Republicans won’t go THAT far

  • I don’t know about that. I’m not sure I should be participating in this story.
  • Sen. Bob Corker • Responding to the idea of joining a potential Modern Tea Party Caucus in the Senate. Who pitched this idea? None other than Rand Paul, who hasn’t even been elected yet. That said, it’s gaining a little traction – Michele Bachmann, shortly after hearing about Paul’s idea, applied to make a similar caucus for the House. Paul’s optimistic it could happen. “If we get another loud voice in there, like Mike Lee from Utah or Sharron Angle from Nevada,” he says, “there will be a new nucleus” for promoting Tea Party principles. Which is a big “if,” by the way, because they still have to win their elections. source

Politics: The NAACP wants a Tea Party fight, and some “Tea Party” thoughts

  • I’m busy today so notify me asap when NAACP renders verdict: are liberty-loving, equality-respecting patriots racist? Bated breath, waiting …
  • Sarah Palin • Tweeting about the anticipated move by the NAACP to denounce the Modern Tea Party Movement* for “explicitly racist behavior.” Not often we say this, but … Palin’s right. Yo, NAACP, what happened to setting the example instead of playing angry reactionary? You guys are a pretty effective weapon in the war on racism, but if you’re using it to play politics, it will not work out for you. It seems as pathetic as boycotting a greeting card that sounds like something it obviously isn’t. source

* – After a little soul-searching and some feedback from fellow readers, we’ve chosen to revert back to referring to the Tea Party Movement as such, leaving “bizarro hippies” as a part of our past and adding the word “Modern” in front of “Tea Party,” which should get around the problem that the name creates – that it disregards and usurps the memory of the original Boston Tea Party. Let’s admit it. It was intended as a lighthearted joke but some readers didn’t take it that way.
