Music, Tech: WolframAlpha’s musical cousin the weirdest thing ever

  • Look, we realize that we’re bloggers first, musicians second. But good God, we didn’t know we could create music as godawful as this. The mathematical approach at music creates tunes that sound straight out of 1986 but otherwise has no equivalent. The most interesting part? It predates WolframAlpha by about four years. Waste ten minutes on this, kids. source

Offbeat: Puerto Rican shooting victim’s funeral ditches the boring coffin

  • This isn’t a Madame Tussauds wax figure. No, this guy is actually dead, he’s been embalmed, and he’s sitting on a motorcycle (which he was given by his uncle) at his wake. The deceased, David Morales Colón, was recently killed in a shooting at the far-too-sad age of 22. It’s the way he probably wants to be remembered. When we die, we want to be embalmed sitting at a coffee shop, typing on a MacBook. Less fun, but more accurate. (Thanks @putneydm) source

Biz, U.S.: Our latest AOL News article tackles the SEC’s strange porn habit

  • Did some SEC employees have too much time on their hands? Last week, a lot of the buzz on the ‘net was around revelations that SEC staffers were caught looking at porn. But it’s not as bad as it looks. According to a study we found, 28 percent of people at your average cubicle farm (like this one) look at porn at work (we know, right?!). An internal investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission nailed around one percent of their employees. And we think we know why they were so bored. Read our latest AOL News article for some insight. source

Politics: Gay rights advocates get wires crossed at Obama speech

  • Look, Obama may not be able to stop “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” immediately, but it’s still kind of surprising that he was heckled by gay rights supporters for it. It’s also bad because, well, Barbara Boxer is in the fight for her political life, and Obama, who’s stumping for her, is made to look bad by those on his own side. This is how Boxer will lose her re-election bid. source

Offbeat: We think aliens just landed in Wisconsin for some reason

This giant fireball lit up the Midwestern skies for about fifteen minutes last night – just enough time for a strange creature to destroy humanity as we know it. source

Tech: Don’t bring iPads to Israel; it doesn’t fit their standards for tablets

  • They must have at least five commandments on them, minimum. Seriously, though, the iPad apparently does not meet standards for wi-fi in the country, which are the same as Europe’s. Kind of a stupid reason, by the way, considering there are MILLIONS of devices that support the form of wi-fi the iPad does. source

Offbeat: RyanAir charges for bathrooms, American Restroom Association exists

  • It is a human right to freely eliminate yourself. It’s conceivable that people could be stuck on an airline for 15 to 20 hours. The idea of having only one bathroom in a situation like that is … strange.
  • University of Maryland professor Dr. Steven Soifer • Regarding RyanAir’s decision to cut the number of bathrooms from three to one, and make that one coin-operated. While he may miss the boat on some aspects of this (he argues that it violates the Americans with Disabilities Act, even though RyanAir is a European company, on other aspects he’s dead-on. Fun fact: Soifer is the co-founder of the American Restroom Association and Shy Bladder Center, two organizations we can’t believe exist. source

Culture: Avant-garde film or Nike commercial? Tiger Woods ad a bit odd

  • If you can’t get rid of him, might as well traumatize him. Woods, who lost his beloved father a couple of years ago, gets to hear his voice asking the kind of questions one in Woods’ situation might not want to hear. It’s a vaguely brilliant move on Nike’s part, but on Tiger’s, it doesn’t really help him.
