Politics: Max Headroom: Blame Robert Bork for Elena Kagan’s problems

  • “Conceivable”? Really? Elena Kagan is like a puppy dog with wide eyes and a lovable smile. Yet, Sen. Jeff Sessions seems to think there might be a chance she gets filibustered. Really? Are we talking about the same Elena Kagan?

  • Blame Robert Bork Why is Kagan’s hearing so seemingly controversial? Because Robert Bork, the Reagan Supreme Court nominee, created an air of contention that every high court nominee’s hearing has had ever since.

  • One woman to anotherLate last month, Sandra Day O’Connor, who went through a painful confirmation herself, told George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that the process is tough for everyone, but she thought Kagan would make it.

U.S.: Robert Byrd, one of our greatest natural resources, “seriously ill”

We hope he pulls through OK, but we bet that every newspaper in the country has an obit written up on the 92-year-old Senator. You know, just in case. source

Politics: Max Headroom: Mike Huckabee made a good cocaine joke

  • Mike Huckabee: Hi-lariousOn “Red Eye” the other night, the former Arkansas governor suggested – in response to Sarah Palin calling marijuana a “minimal” problem – that Palin was using coke. Hilariously. Huckabee wins the award for “funniest Republican.”

  • Sharron Angle folds Protip: If you only show your face on conservative news programs and only play to the base, eventually you won’t know how to handle tough questions from real reporters, a situation that KLAS-TV noticed and MSNBC regaled.

  • Rahm emanuel radiatesDoesn’t Obama’s top dude sound like he knows the score here with the energy bill? You know it. Problem is, he (and Obama) are trying to push it during the oil spill, which seems like it might dampen the whole idea altogether.

Politics: Only notable S.C. Democrat: Alvin Greene is a plant

  • There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary. I don’t know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone’s plant.
  • Rep. James Clyburn • On Alvin Greene’s surprise victory in the South Carolina Democratic Senate primary. Clyburn, probably the best-known South Carolina Democrat, seems convinced that someone gave Greene the money for the filing fee. “Somebody gave him that $10,000 and he who took it should be investigated, and he who gave it should be investigated,” Clyburn said. Dude, while you may be right, let’s face it. The reason Greene won is because the other guy was an absolute non-entity too. Even he had only a handful of funds compared to Jim “I’m going to coast to victory” DeMint. source

Politics: Alvin Greene: Nikki Haley no longer most scandalous S.C. politician

  • tuesday Some unemployed former army guy without a Web site, Alvin Greene, somehow wins the Democratic primary in the state’s Senate race. Probably because nobody knew who the other guy was, either.
  • wednesday Conveniently, it comes out that Greene allegedly showed a college student some dirty stuff on a computer, which is a felony. The Democratic party, freaked out by this, wants him to quit. He won’t. This’ll be fun, guys. source
