World: Benjamin Netanyahu’s probably gonna fire the guy who said this

  • We’ve got a real problem. You could say that Obama is the greatest disaster for Israel – a strategic disaster.
  • An anonymous quote from a Benjamin Netanyahu confidante • Regarding the Obama administration, who Netanyahu had a fun meeting with last week. The quote, which was paraphrased in a banner headline in Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, was bashed by Netanyahu’s office in a statement: “The prime minister emphatically rejects the anonymous quotes about President Obama that a newspaper attributed to one of his confidants, and he condemns them.” Who’s getting fired? source

World: The U.S. can’t shake an Israel deal out of Benny Netanyahu

  • I think we have found the golden path between Israel’s traditional policies and our desire to move forward toward peace.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu • On leaving the U.S. without an agreement on that whole settlement thing that really pissed off the U.S. In perhaps the strongest sign that this statement isn’t entirely accurate, the two countries didn’t issue a joint statement about their peace talks. In other news, yet another Jerusalem settlement in a Palestinian area is getting built. Because, hey, why the heck not? source

World: Dear Thai protesters: Your use of blood is gross. Stop it.

We’ve strategically cropped this photo in a way that you can’t see the blood. We can only think of two or three things grosser than blood to throw in protest. source

World: Turkey’s PM tries to remind Armenians who’s the boss

  • 170,000 the number of Armenians currently living in Turkey
  • 100,000 Armenians could be forced out for living there illegally
  • » Why them, why now? It’s a purely political statement by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turkey’s upset that the U.S. and Swedish governments are pushing to label the atrocities Turks enacted on Armenians during World War I as genocide. The two countries have a fragile diplomacy going on, and while Turkey has let the Armenians peacefully live in Turkey, it’s something that could be taken away. source

World: Thaksin Shinawatra’s bank accounts are looking much lighter today

Why are these women so sad? Because Shinawatra, the former Thai Prime Minister, just had much of his money taken away by a court. Over $1 billion of it. source

World: Tony Blair: Uh, yeah, about Iraq … we changed, not Saddam

  • It wasn’t that objectively he had done more. It was that our perception of the risk had shifted.
  • Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair • Speaking out regarding allegations that he had misled Parliament about the threat in Iraq. Essentially, he admitted that it wasn’t an imminent threat, but 9/11 had changed the playing field. Oh boy. That sounds like he might have misled Parliament on Iraq. source

World: Gordon Brown: Not a well-liked man in the U.K. right now

  • There was certainly some consideration by several of Brown’s ministers yesterday over whether or not to back him. In the end, none of them wanted to wield the knife. But yes, of course, this is further damaging to Gordon Brown.
  • University of Liverpool political department head Jonathan Tonge • Regarding the fate of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who barely survived a revolt by his own party this week. Some of his own staff barely even gave him any love. The ultra-unpopular Labor Party member fended off a couple of senior party members asking for a vote to get him out of office, and likely faces a worse fate from the British public in June elections. Remember how the last guy, Tony Blair, also left in a firestorm of controversy from his own Labor Party? Yeah. Just sayin’. Seems like a trend at this point. source

World: Silvio Berlusconi finally leaves the hospital! WHOO! Go Silv!

  • So there we go, kids, the media event of the century. Silvio Berlusconi finally leaves the hospital, looking like hell, in bandages, because some crazy guy shamed him. He was in the hospital four days – considering the nature of his injuries, a long time. source

That #(&@(&)(!)& is gonna pay for this (#^&. We’re gonna give him concrete shoes, if you get our drift. Wink wink, nudge nudge. source
