World: Turkey: We’re severing all ties with Israel, the “spoiled boy” of the Middle East

  • We are completely suspending all of these, trade relations, military relations, related with the defense industry. All of these are completely suspended and other measures will follow this process.
  • Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan • Explaining why his country would be placing additional sanctions on Israel, which he compared to a “spoiled boy.” The two countries were once close allies, but one flotilla raid later, and all that’s out the window. It’s a pretty dramatic change if you ask us. source

World: Turkey’s top military commander, other leaders resign in protest

  • Our guess: He resigned after seeing this terrible Photoshop job. For decades, Turkey’s military was seen as one of the country’s most powerful political pillars, one that protected the country’s secular roots. However, in recent years, they’ve faced increased opposition from Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and after a number of military officials faced arrest, many of Turkey’s top military leaders, including commander Gen. Isik Kosaner, above, resigned in protest — which gave Erdogan an opportunity to put the dude he wanted in Kosaner’s place, allowing him to assert more control over the military. Sounds messy. source

World: Turkey’s PM tries to remind Armenians who’s the boss

  • 170,000 the number of Armenians currently living in Turkey
  • 100,000 Armenians could be forced out for living there illegally
  • » Why them, why now? It’s a purely political statement by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turkey’s upset that the U.S. and Swedish governments are pushing to label the atrocities Turks enacted on Armenians during World War I as genocide. The two countries have a fragile diplomacy going on, and while Turkey has let the Armenians peacefully live in Turkey, it’s something that could be taken away. source
