Politics: Dear Newt Gingrich: Save us the presidential speculation

  • Look Newt, we appreciate the dog and pony show you’ve run for years, giving people reason to speculate on why you might run for president, but come on, you’re not really going to do it. You may say you will, but let’s face facts: You haven’t been relevant since about 1998. And while the presidential talk makes you sound relevant, you’re really not. It gets you press, but we can’t imagine people voting for you over, say, Mitt Romney or Mike Huckabee. Are we wrong here? Is Newt really a force to be reckoned with? source

Politics: Obama better watch out for “Generic Republican” in 2012

  • However, it is a problem for Republicans that no actual Republican can approach the performance of the generic candidate, probably because the generic candidate is Rorschach blot that allows each respondent to create what amounts to their fantasy candidate.
  • FiveThirtyEight blogger Nate Silver • Making a very astute point based on early polling for the 2012 presidential election. Essentially, while a “generic” Republican candidate can handily beat Obama right now, according to a compilation of polls he put together, no flesh-and-blood candidate can actually get close to that mark right now. The closest is Mitt Romney, who is less than six points behind. Sarah Palin, however, would be a wash, as she trails Obama by 14.4 points. Granted, it’s still very early (as Silver notes), and a lot can change, but that’s a fairly interesting signifying point. source

Politics: Would Obama win in 2012? It’s a statistical dead heat

  • 47% of people would vote for Obama in 2012, versus 44 percent for a hypothetical Republican candidate
  • 15% amount Bill Clinton was down in a similar poll in 1994; we all know what happened there (he lost, we think)
  • 75% of Dems want to see Obama reelected; the GOP wants to see LMFAO fan Mitt Romney take him on source

Politics: Mitt Romney makes a good (and true!) point on health care

  • The lifespan of the average American is less than that of people in nations that spend far less (on health care). … To put it bluntly, we spend more and die sooner.
  • Mitt Romney • In his new book, “No Apology” (which could also be what that LMFAO rapper got), regarding the health care plan he enacted in Massachusetts. According to Polifact, this nugget is in fact true. At a 77.8 year life expectancy, 23 nations are ahead of us, and Japan is nearly five years ahead of us. And regarding health care expenditures, we spend $7,290 per capita on health care, which is WAAAAAYYY (we’re talking thousands) above each of those 23 nations. In fact, one nation ahead of us, South Korea, spends a quarter per capita. (Why is this, anyway?) Romney knows what he’s talking about – he enacted a bipartisan health care plan in Massachusetts, which has a TON in common with Obama’s plan. This is funny because the title of the book is inspired by a criticism of something Obama said. Awk-warrrd. source

Culture: Some crappy rapper was involved in the Mitt Romney incident

  • He grabs my shoulder .. and I just react BOOM get off me! He put a condor grip on me. What am I supposed to do?
  • LMFAO rapper Sky Blu • Regarding the Mitt Romney airplane incident where Romney reportedly got attacked by someone on an airplane. That someone was reportedly Sky Blu. LMFAO, who sucks so much that they can be put into the same sentence as Cisco Adler, is a shit-hop group. Yeah, that’s right, we called it shit-hop. What are you gonna do about it? Anyway, here’s the video of them explaining exactly what they say happened. Sky Blu claims Romney, that conservative icon, drew first blood. We hope he did. LOL. source

Politics: Max Headroom: John McCain lets Sarah Palin know where she stands

  • Is this a compliment?
On “Meet The Press” this week, John McCain said that he was proud of his former Veep candidate, Sarah Palin, and said that even though she’s “irrelevant,” people continue to attack her. Sounds backhanded.

  • Mitt Romney’s stance
You know this guy’s gonna make another run for office. The GOP’s best resource on government health care leans largely on fiscal concerns in this clip with our boy John King. Whether or not you agree, he sounds on the ball.

  • I don’t vote
Gen. David Petraeus has a pretty interesting wrinkle to carry around: He doesn’t vote, and hasn’t since he was promoted to Maj. General in 2002. Fox News’ Chris Wallace, amusingly, seems taken aback by this fact.

Politics: Daily Poll: An absurdly early 2012 GOP presidential straw poll

  • The Washington Post’s Monday Fix got us to thinking this week due to their power list of Republicans in 2012. Sarah Palin is on top of it. And in a minor upset, Tim Pawlenty is in front of Mitt Romney. And Mike “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” Huckabee is standing pat in fourth. Now, we know it’s early and it doesn’t mean anything, but we’d like to know who you’d most likely vote for in 2012, if given the choice. This is obviously unscientific and mostly for fun. And feel free to tell us how much you hate (insert object of scorn here) in the comments.source

U.S.: Mitt Romney pulled off health care in Massachusetts, no prob

  • And he did it without the public option. Three years ago, former Republican Massachusetts governor and likely 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney pushed health care reform through his state. It requires people to have health care, but gives help to the poor. And it’s popular – 7 in 10 really like it. It’s food for thought for sure, and a perfect arguing point for Romney. Watch him go: “You don’t have to have a public option. You don’t have to have the government getting into the insurance business to make it work.” source
