World: Benny Netanyahu thinks Ahmadinejad is radicalizing Lebanon

  • Lebanon is rapidly becoming a new satellite of Iran. It’s a tragedy for Lebanon.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu • Suggesting that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent visit to Lebanon had the effect of radicalizing the country. What makes him say something like that? Well, here’s a sample of what Ahmadinejad said: “The whole world knows that the Zionists are going to disappear … The occupying Zionists today have no choice but to accept reality and go back to their countries of origin.” Ohhhh. Yeah. We see how Benny boy could deduct that from the Iranian leader’s visit. source

World: Wikileaks has the CIA freaked out again over new leak

  • These sorts of analytic products – clearly identified as coming from the Agency’s ‘Red Cell’ – are designed simply to provoke thought and present different points of view.
  • CIA spokeswoman Marie Harf • Trying to play down the importance of Wikileaks’ latest leak, “What If Foreigners See the United States as an ‘Exporter of Terrorism’?,” a three-page 2001 classified document  from the CIA which sounds like a barnburner of a read.  It’s no Afghan War data dump or anything, but it does cover something about Baruch Goldstein, a U.S. citizen who moved to Israel and set off a bomb that started a trend of car bombings. That’s something, we guess. source

World: Odds that Israel and the Palestinians build peace in D.C.? 1000:1

  • They have to give it the old college try once a decade, right? The Israelis and Palestinians reportedly plan to hold some peace talks in the U.S. under the Obama administration’s watchful eye in a couple of weeks. It’d be the first time the sides met for peace talks in over two years. You know what would really help Obama’s poll numbers and validate his Nobel Peace Prize at the same time? If he could create peace in the Middle East. Just sayin’. source

World: Ouch: David Cameron compares Gaza to “prison camp”

  • The situation in Gaza has to change. Humanitarian goods and people must flow in both directions. Gaza cannot and must not be allowed to remain a prison camp.
  • British Prime Minister David Cameron • Using harsh language to describe the situation in the Palestine-occupied area. He also had not-nice-things to say about the flotilla attack. “I have told prime minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu we will expect the Israeli inquiry to be swift, transparent and rigorous,” he said. “Let me also be clear that the situation in Gaza has to change.” source

World: Israeli soldiers are gonna face charges for their conduct in Gaza

  • How bad the 2008 conflict was is up for debate. Investigators for the Israeli government looked into 150 separate incidents of possible misconduct during late 2008’s Operation Cast Lead. Allegations include manslaughter and, in one case, using a Palestinian man as a “human shield.” How many people died in the incident, and how many of those were civilians? Depends on who you ask:
  • 1,400 estimated Palestinian deaths, according to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights; they say most were non-combatant
  • 1,166 estimated Palestinian deaths, according to the Israeli government, which says 60 percent of those were “terror operatives” source

World: Israel (partly) expands the list of things that can go into Gaza

  • <200 number of things that were allowed on the old list
  • 1,000’s number of things that are banned on the new list source
  • » Notable omissions: While food and household cleaning items made the cut, building supplies did not. Lumber, concrete, steel and other supplies necessary for Gaza to rebuild its infrastructure did not make the list. Why? Because Israel wants to ensure they can’t build bunkers or rockets. Or, you know, buildings, roads and basic infrastructure.

World: Israeli diplomats: Every day is “Casual Friday” for them right now

  • cause Israeli diplomats don’t think they’re getting paid wages on par with other government agencies.
  • reaction They decided to protest the conditions … by wearing jeans and sandals to work. source
  • » Our thoughts: If they really want to punish them, they should wear socks with the sandals. Though that might be a little cruel and unusual.
