World: Lebanon cabinet thrown into chaos after Hezbollah supporters resign

  • 11 ministers in the Lebanese cabinet resigned today (uh oh) source
  • » Why did they resign? The members, supporters of Hezbollah, resigned in protest of a UN-backed tribunal looking into the death of former prime minister Rafik Hariri. It’s likely that the tribunal will point the finger at members of Hezbollah, which is what led to the instability today and even made it an inevitability. The result? The government dissolves. Yikes.

World: Benny Netanyahu thinks Ahmadinejad is radicalizing Lebanon

  • Lebanon is rapidly becoming a new satellite of Iran. It’s a tragedy for Lebanon.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu • Suggesting that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s recent visit to Lebanon had the effect of radicalizing the country. What makes him say something like that? Well, here’s a sample of what Ahmadinejad said: “The whole world knows that the Zionists are going to disappear … The occupying Zionists today have no choice but to accept reality and go back to their countries of origin.” Ohhhh. Yeah. We see how Benny boy could deduct that from the Iranian leader’s visit. source

Politics: Protip: If you’re a CNN reporter, don’t praise Hezbollah leaders

Sad to hear of the passing of Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah.. One of Hezbollah’s giants I respect a lot.. #LebanonSun Jul 04 08:24:22 via Twitter for BlackBerry®

  • What was Octavia Nasr thinking? The death of Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, a controversial cleric whose life and views are way more complex than this tweet gives them credit for, require more context than 140 characters. Considering her status as CNN’s Senior Editor of Mideast Affairs, it was perhaps too much of an oversight. And as a result, she was fired. “At this point,” said Parisa Khosravi, CNN’s Vice President of international newsgathering, “we believe that her credibility in her position as senior editor for Middle Eastern affairs has been compromised going forward.” Oops. source
