Tech: Don’t bring iPads to Israel; it doesn’t fit their standards for tablets

  • They must have at least five commandments on them, minimum. Seriously, though, the iPad apparently does not meet standards for wi-fi in the country, which are the same as Europe’s. Kind of a stupid reason, by the way, considering there are MILLIONS of devices that support the form of wi-fi the iPad does. source

Tech: Sorry, world: Apparently, the iPad’s really popular in the U.S.

  • Faced with this surprisingly strong U.S. demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May.
  • A statement from Apple • Regarding the company’s decision to delay the international release of the tablet which we’re currently using to read tweets while blogging (Twitterrific for the win). The company says that they’ve already shipped half a million iPads but it appeared demand in the U.S. would top expectations for at least the next several weeks. We blame the awesome Reuters app. source

Tech: The JooJoo costs as much as an iPad, does half as much

  • Bring up YouTube or Hulu clips and they look fine in a small window, but click into the full-screen mode and you’ll get more stalls and sputtering than a health care bill moving through Congress.
  • Wired reviewer Priya Ganapati • Discussing the JooJoo, formerly the CrunchPad. Beyond the immense amount of drama around the former TechCrunch-sponsored device, they say it sucks, especially at its $500 price point. The key point to take from the review? “Twice the weight of an iPad with half the usability. … You’re going to charge $500 for this thing with a straight face?” (In Michael Arrington’s defense, he wanted to charge less than half that price, but then Fusion Garage got a little greedy.) source

Tech: So, Tweetie, guess we can call you “Twitter for iPhone” now?

  • That explains the lack of a Tweetie iPad app. Twitter tonight acquired the parent company of Tweetie, which is a big fracking deal, because it means Twitter is getting into the well-saturated Twitter app business – a field that includes Seesmic, EchoFon, TweetDeck, our beloved Twitterific iPad app, and hundreds of others. The meaning of being a Twitter developer might be changing significantly. source

Tech: Does Apple have a feasible reason for blocking Flash-created apps?

  • Yes, apparently. It’s related to multitasking. As the nerd world went into a tizzy yesterday after realizing the nature of the iPhone’s new developer’s agreement, it appears that the main complaint – a clause seemingly written to block Adobe Flash-compiled apps – might have been been put in for multitasking-related reasons. Essentially, code not written directly for the iPhone may not act as anticipated with the new features, AppleInsider reports. In other news, Adobe’s SEC filing today essentially admitted Apple’s anti-Flash tactics could really hurt the company. source

Tech: iPhone 4.0 coming soon: Apple doesn’t let up on the iNews

  • We promise, next post will be about something else. On April 8, Apple will announce the launch of its new iPhone Version 4.0. It probably won’t launch that day, but it’ll give you nerds something to get excited about. After this, Apple moratorium for the rest of the day. We promise. Unless Steve Jobs dies. source

Culture, Tech: “Will it Blend?”, now and then: The iPhone and the iPad

  • 2007: iPhone puree One of YouTube’s most classic and memorable clips came out just after the iPhone’s release, when a blender company threw an iPhone into one of its high-powered blenders and saw what happened. It was awesomely expensive.

  • 2010: Ipad slushee The “Will it Blend?” dude, having had much more experience with the great gift of his, does the same thing to an iPad. Obviously an iPad is too big for one blender, so he violently breaks the thing in half first. Yet another classic.

Tech: Want to become a better iPad touch typist? Use this app

  • If we can somehow turn an army of tablet-wielding rich people into tablet-wielding rich people who can also type at 50 words a minute on a touch screen, the world will have plenty of reason to be scared. We haven’t tried this app, but plan to. source
