Politics: Apparently, the Senate Democrats are a bunch of pansies

  • Grassley and three to four Republicans would have voted for it, but all the other Republicans would have beaten the living ^&%$ out of us [during the 2010 midterms], claiming the bill was too bloated.
  • A random Democrat who supported Harry Reid’s decision • Regarding the jobs bill that was cut by $70 billion. You guys are @(&@(@(. Get a backbone and call us later. Do you think FDR would’ve done something like this, knowing how badly the country needed it? It’s a jobs bill. $15 billion does not help create jobs. $85 billion does. What’s the point of having a majority if you’re not going to use it? source

Politics: Glenn Beck uncovers a 9/11 “truther” in a Tea Party candidate. WTF?

  • I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There are some very good arguments, and I think the American people have not seen all of the evidence there, so I have not taken a position on that.
  • Texas Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina • Answering a point-blank question from Glenn Beck: “Do you believe the government was in any way involved in the bringing down of the World Trade Centers on 9/11?” This is a Tea Party candidate. Who was doing well in the polls until now. Saying something stupid. To. Glenn. Beck. Ahahahahahahahaha … ahahahaha … and we thought Harold Ford, Jr. had the market on saying stupid stuff all locked up. We don’t say this often, but good job Glenn Beck! source

  • 44% of respondents say they’d vote for Obama again in 2012
  • 42% of respondents would rather vote for an anonymous “Republican candidate”
  • 14% support a fringe candidate or don’t care one way or the other source

Politics: CNN tells Obama he should “go gangsta” on the GOP

  • Obama’s critics keep blasting him for Chicago-style politics. So, fine. Channel your inner Al Capone and go gangsta against your foes. Let ’em know that if they aren’t with you, they are against you, and will pay the price.
  • CNN political analyst Roland S. Martin • Regarding his take on Obama and the Democrats in general. His feeling is that the party in general isn’t showing a backbone, and that’s why he’s struggling right now. We’re just imagining Obama actually going gangsta, in the N.W.A. sense. A great visual image. source

U.S.: The incredible shrinking jobs bill: $70 billion goes *poof*

  • $85
    billion
cost of the jobs bill this morning, which had bipartisan support due to unrelated earmarks
  • $15
    billion
cost of the jobs bill right now, after Harry Reid took a chainsaw to it and pissed off GOP members source

Politics: No, really? Sarah Palin’s thinking of running for president in 2012

  • I think that it would be absurd to not consider what it is that I can potentially do to help our country. … I won’t close the door that perhaps could be open for me in the future.
  • Sarah Palin • Speaking on “Fox News Sunday” about her chances of running for president in a couple of years. Wonder what might have suggested that – the dropping out of the Alaska governor position, the commentator position on Fox News, the presidential-sounding speech she made just last night at the Tea Party convention? We just didn’t see it coming. We must be dense. source

U.S.: A Super Bowl for policy wonks: Left vs. Right, in Obama’s house

  • Get yo popcorn ready! Today, during a pre-Super Bowl interview on CBS, Obama said that on Feb. 25, he would be hosting a live, televised debate for Republicans and Democrats to work out their differences on health care. In the White House. “If we can go step by step through a series of these issues and arrive at some agreements, there’s no reason we can’t do this faster than it took last year,” he said. Maybe so, but man, we can’t wait to watch this. The Q&A with the Republicans? Just a warm-up. source

Politics: The final word on the whole Sarah Palin Tea Party thing

  • I know many of you think I am over-estimating her and under-estimating the common sense of the American people. I hope to God you’re right.
  • Super-blogger Andrew Sullivan • Regarding the Tea Party convention. For some reason, Sullivan thought it was a great idea to live-blog her performance last night. Don’t get him wrong; he doesn’t like Palin, either, but he realizes her importance. Begrudgingly. source

Politics: The Tea Party movement wants to win, but can’t seem to organize

  • The movement is maturing. The rallies were good for last year, because that’s what we could do last year. This year we have to change things. We have got to win.
  • Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips • Regarding his organization’s goals (along with the overall movement’s goals) for 2010, which they tried to push at this weekend’s convention in Nashville. They want a conservative congress in 2010 and a conservative president in 2012. Problem is, the movement doesn’t really have a leader and kinda shares disdain for Republicans and Democrats. “This movement doesn’t need a leader,” said Anthony Shreeve of the Tennessee Tea Party Coalition. “It’s a ‘We the People’ movement.” Too bad he undercut his point by protesting the convention outside. Get organized, kids. source

Politics: Three political ads nearly as weird as Carly Fiorina’s Demon Sheep

  • Organ harvesting fun! Political ads as weird as Carly Fiorina’s are surprisingly easy to come by, apparently. Some coroner in the New Orleans area released this doozy of an ad that, unlike Fiorina’s masterwork, was fairly well-done. (Hat tip MHTE)

  • Mop-top message This wonderful ad, by Demon Sheep mastermind Fred Davis, reimagines Rod Blagojevich’s hair as a disease that has infected the Illinois state capital and the citizens of Springfield. It’s mind-numbingly effective.

  • The Ox Vs. The Rat In Georgia, conservatives compare liberals to rats. Roy Barnes, the former Georgia governor running for reelection in 2010, is portrayed as a rat in this ad. John Oxendine is portrayed as an ox. The ox kicks a lot of rat ass at the end of this clip.
