It often seemed like Grayson putting on a piece of performance art, attacking Republicans with all the vitriol they normally use to attack Democrats, questioning their moral values and basic sense of humanity – and for this, people called him crazy.
Talking Points Memo writer Eric Kleefeld • Summing up the political career of Alan Grayson, a one-term congressman who perhaps had the most interesting career of any one-term congressman in years. He brought the kind of rage from the left that many on the left were used to hearing from the right. And for that, he goes home. He lost by nearly 20 percent. Dude fell hard. And flat. We will miss Grayson for the simple fact that he made the House more interesting while he was there. We won’t miss him because he was pretty much the best example of amplifying everything and hearing nothing – on either side. Jon Stewart might as well have done his whole rally to criticize Grayson’s media-attracting ways. source
Elmo got the best of the guy. He broke two of his fingers.
Winter Park, Fla. police Lt. Wayne Farrell • Regarding an unprovoked attack of a guy dressed like Elmo at a Guitar Center. The man reportedly felt “threatened” by the Sesame Street icon, and we’re guessing he was probably just upset about the whole Katy Perry thing. Elmo wasn’t hurt, by the way. source
I have no experience with it whatsoever. I only know what the Bible says.
Pastor Terry Jones • Regarding his experience with the Koran, which he plans to burn next month, on September 11th. As you might imagine, such an action is extremely controversial, and many people do not like Jones’ plan, which he’s talked about with 150 different media outlets. He’s gotten death threats. “We have to be careful,” he says. “The overall response has been much greater than we expected.” Jones is based out of Florida, which has been a hotbed of anti-Islamic activity of late, most notably a pipe bomb attack at a mosque back in May. source
The solution isn’t just to paralyze government. Vote for us because you couldn’t possibly vote for them? That’s not enough. It may win some seats, but it won’t take you where you want to be.
Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio • Appearing to make a break from the Modern Tea Party script. Why’s that? Well, uh, Charlie Crist went independent and turned Rubio’s plan to be a hard-line conservative candidate upside down. So now he has to say things like this to appease the moderates that Crist is going to win over in the election because he didn’t give in. Remember, guys, the Marco Rubio you’re voting for isn’t the one who says things like this. It’s the one who gave this speech at CPAC. He only moderated himself out of necessity. source
