World: Who’s the newest planet on the universe block?

  • It’s our baby brother! Remember the name “Kepler-22b”. Its surface temperature is a balmy 72 degrees; it orbits a star that is very similar to our sun; its year is even close to ours — 290 days. Don’t worry just yet, though, as scientists haven’t fully discovered what makes up its surface. But “the planet would likely be warm enough to host liquid water on its surface.” The scientists on the study are “getting really close, we are really homing in on the true Earth-sized habitable planets.” source

Music: Here’s the average score of Pitchfork’s top 20 albums of the 2000s

  • 9.2 the average score of the top 20 albums of the decade; two albums (including the top one, Radiohead’s “Kid A,” and Wilco’s “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot”) scored perfect tens, and most albums were above 9.0
  • two hip-hop albums – Outkast’s “Stankonia” and Ghostface Killah’s “Supreme Clientele,” weren’t reviewed (we averaged those); Daft Punk’s “Discovery” was lowest-rated at 6.4 – it’s in third place source

Music: We don’t know what to make of this Discovery album. Do you?

  • The pedigree on this side project is pretty solid for indie circles – a guy from Vampire Weekend and a guy from Ra Ra Riot. But the beats on this bizarre attempt at R&B are so cheesy and over-the-top that we’re not sure whether to dance or laugh. What do you think of “LP”? Check it out above. source

Offbeat: This new frogfish is a real trip, man! Oooh, the colors …

This psychedelic fish looks – and acts – like an acid trip gone wrong. source
