Culture: Upcoming HBO slogan: It’s not TV. It’s Dick Cheney!

  • And now, ladies and gentlemen: Dick Cheney will soon be returning to the American limelight in the form of an HBO miniseries. The polarizing (and I think even the most hardened pro-Cheney partisan would admit, oft-glowering) former Veep’s entire career is said to be the focus of the series, from his rise in the Nixon administration, to the House of Representatives, to his roles in both Bush administrations. The series will be based on a Frontline documentary called “The Dark Side,” as well as a book called “Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency” by Barton Gellman. source

  • So guys, remember ten years ago, when our country was so divided that we had to debate how stupid Florida’s ballots were? You probably don’t, because ten years of drama has happened since then, but today marks the tenth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision that gave George W. Bush the electoral college win – and led to his two twisted terms. It’s a reminder that no matter how far we’ve come since then, the partisan bickering never really went away. source

  • Dick Cheney, February 2010Earlier this year at CPAC, the former vice president gave a notable speech that put him in front of the public eye very notably. Soon after, his well-documented health problems crept back, leading to a lengthy hospital stay in July that led to months of speculation.
  • Dick Cheney, today At George W. Bush’s groundbreaking for his presidential library, Cheney showed up looking a heckuva lot thinner and a tad bit like C. Montgomery Burns. What happened? He lost a ton of weight in the hospital. But he’s reportedly doing a lot better. source

Politics: Dick Cheney’s health problems due to irregular heartbeat

  • That’s what a family friend told CNN. The former vice president has been in the hospital all weekend with atrial fibrillation, or an irregular heartbeat. This is nothing new for him. But he should be OK soon – his daughter Liz (a bit of a firebrand herself) says he should be out of the hospital and raring to go on Monday. source

The former vice president has had so many procedures done for his heart and the rest of his body that he’s his own living embodiment of why health care is effective. He also probably pays for at least one doctor’s yearly salary. Some highlights:
  • 1978 The year of Cheney’s first heart attack. He’s had three others since.
  • 2005 Cheney was treated for arterial aneurysms behind both of his knees.
  • 2007 An electrical impulse was used to correct his irregular heartbeat.
  • 2009 He underwent TWO elective surgeries for lumbar spinal stenosis. source
