Politics: Huckabee drags Ted Kennedy’s dead body into health care debate

  • It was just laying there in Boston! Huckabee, who is a smart, funny guy whether or not you like his politics, said on his radio show Thursday that Kennedy would have died sooner under Obamacare. “When Sen. Kennedy was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer at 77, did he give up on life and go home to take pain pills and die? Of course not.” We’re not gonna vouch for this, but we are gonna say that now may not be the best time to make this argument. source

Politics: They don’t build journalists like Robert Novak anymore

  • For a half-century, Novak worked like a wheat thresher, feeding and grooming his sources until they gave him the harvest of news—or he beat it out of them.
  • Slate columnist Jack Shafer • Describing Robert Novak and what he did to get his scoops, no matter how small. It was a approach that worked for him, but not without imperfection – his methods managed to out CIA operative Valerie Plame, a saga which sullied his reputation late in life. (Though attacks by “The Daily Show” didn’t help his image, either.) All in all, he lived life as the ultimate D.C. insider. This is a great piece on Novak; we suggest you read it. • source

Politics, U.S.: On death panels and bold-faced lies spread about health care

  • I guess what surprised me is the ferocity, it’s much stronger than I expected. It’s people who are ideologically opposed to Mr. Obama, and this is the opportunity to weaken the president.
  • AARP executive vice president John Rother • Which supports changing the health care plan, on attacks the plan has received, including suggestions of a “death panel” by Sarah Palin, a claim which is completely false but has much more traction than it should. The claims have much in common with the claims used to kill the health care movement in 1994. One conservative commentator from that era who flipped sides, David Brock, put it best: “In the 90s, every misrepresentation under the sun was made about the Clinton plan and there was no real capacity to push back. Now, there is that capacity.” • source

Biz, Politics: The campaign to kill Glenn Beck’s advertisers is kinda working

  • Former advertisers
    1. State Farm
    2. Lawyers.com
    3. Procter & Gamble
    4. Progressive
    5. S.C. Johnson
    6. GEICO
    7. Men’s Wearhouse
    8. Sargento
Beck’s advertiser list has been cut significantly after an orchestrated campaign to attack the Fox News talk-show yakker for comments like those in the video above. And it’s had an effect. Thanks to left-leaning organizations like Media Matters taking Beck to task for racist and/or below-the-belt attacks on Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, these advertisers are now out.source

World: One Saudi guy boasted about sex on TV. Now the network’s closed.

  • Saudi Arabia isn’t putting up with that #&*@. The Saudi offices of Lebanese channel LBC were closed, weeks after Mazen Abdul Jawad was shown explaining foreplay and cruisin’ techniques on one of the network’s shows. Saudi Arabia is an incredibly conservative country, so this was a system shock. Abdul Jawad now faces charges for publicizing vice which could be punishable by the death penalty. Man, we wonder what would happen if we beamed five minutes of MTV into Saudi Arabia. source
