Culture: Protip: If you build an effective propaganda poster, Conan will pay you

  • Nice deal, dude! One guy who definitely deserves a payday is artist Mike Mitchell, whose “I’m With Coco” illustration is up there with Shepard Fairey’s oft-litigated Obama “Hope” poster in terms of iconic status. Mitchell licensed rights to Conan’s people for the image (currently getting used on O’Brien’s tour), and he made out with a pretty hefty payday. It’s like he won the lottery. source

Culture: Coming to your town soon: Conan O’Brien, officially on tour

  • We’re super-excited for this. Are you? Rumored for weeks, Conan just announced on Twitter that he’s going on tour. What’s the tour called, you ask? “The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour.” It’s gonna be awesome. And we’d pay a ton of money to see him. Teamcoco.com has been registered by Conan’s staff, by the way. source

Culture: Conan O’Brien’s leap to Twitter puts Jay Leno to shame

  • 101,377 number of followers @ConanOBrien has – in just THREE HOURS; way to rally the troops, dude
  • 30,061 number of followers @JayLeno has, which has been running since May and isn’t written by him

The pitch-perfect intro

  • Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me.
  • Conan O’Brien • In his heavily-retweeted “Hello, World” to the Web. There was some question as to whether the account was initially real, but it now has a spankin’ “Verified Account” stamp on it. We wonder if this Twitter account is the suggestion of bigger things. You know, like a tour. source

Culture: Conan goes on tour? It’s crazy enough that it just might happen

  • His management has been trying to book a tour. One of the regulations Conan has on his contract is that he can’t show up on TV in any role besides an actor until September. But they didn’t say anything about showing up live! So, instead of sitting on the beach drinking mojitos for nine months, he decided that he’d rather be working. If this goes off, it’s gonna rule. Team Coco for life! source

Culture: Best Super Bowl ad ever: David Letterman, Oprah & Jay Leno reunite

  • It’s official. Nothing can top this Super Bowl classic of an ad. It’s a sequel to the Oprah/Dave ad from a year or two ago, and Leno’s appearance is just the salve needed in a late-night war that had just started to heat up again. We approve. The New York Times has a pretty awesome background on how this happened. source

Culture: Tilda Swinton to Conan O’Brien: Come act with me, doppelganger!

  • What I really would love to do is get him to do some of the things I get to do. It would be nice if he were here at Sundance maybe, wearing this coat, talking about I Am Love. And why not? Every girl should have a doppelganger.
  • Tilda Swinton • Regarding the possibility of playing Conan O’Brien in a late-night-related movie. This is freaking awesome for a lot of reasons. Swinton looks just like a female Conan and she’s an Oscar-winning actress. And on his last episode, Conan suggested – jokingly – that Swinton would be the perfect actress to play him. Let this actually happen, gods of awesome. And could Bob Hoskins play Jay Leno please? source

Culture: How other late-show hosts sent off Conan O’Brien last night

  • Kimmel: Clever splicing Jimmy Kimmel has really come into his own during the whole late night saga, and this clip is no exception. It splices Jay Leno’s 1989 movie “Collision Course” into a Conan revenge fantasy. Sweet!

  • Fallon: Boyz II Men Probably due to the fact that he’s kind of the new kid on the block, Jimmy Fallon has kept his head low during the whole late night debacle. As a result, this clip is sweet, but fairly safe.

  • Letterman: A sequel?!Letterman has perhaps had the most fun with the saga, but tonight he was a bit off with the approach, which parodied the infamous 1996 HBO movie “The Late Shift,” and imagined who would play Dave.

Culture: Conan O’Brien’s parting words are words to live by, really

  • All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism – it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.
  • Conan O’Brien • Concluding his final episode on “The Tonight Show” with a heartfelt touch more powerful than a million “The More You Know” promo ads could muster. Conan’s to-be-aired show reportedly features a ton of guests, heartfelt moments and the host finally coming around and saying nice things about his to-be-former bosses, even though he claims he could say whatever he wanted to on the last episode. He’s handled this whole situation like a prince. We admire the guy greatly. Team Conan! source
