Offbeat: Awesome blog: “Bank Notes: A collection of bank robbery notes”

From mean to deadly to nice and meek, bank robbers have different ways of handling notes. This guy’s kinda sinister. (Hat tip Andrew Sullivan) source

U.S.: Neat: Bill Clinton and George W. Bush debating in NYC next year

It’s kind of like a charity boxing match. In one corner, a popular former Democratic president. In the other, Dubya. Stakes? Nonexistent. But fun to watch. source

Culture: Can you tell me how to search, how to search for “Sesame Street”?

sesamestreet1104
  • Yes yes, we know. Google’s done this hundreds of times in the past. But, for the 40th anniversary of “Sesame Street,” this is easily the most awesome one they’ve ever done. Even better? They’ve customized them based on which character was most popular in the corresponding country. Good show, Google.source

About: It’s official. We have a redesign. It’s up. Check it out, kids.

So here it is. Our redesign. We've spent months working on this bad boy. We've been talking about this in bits and pieces over the last few months, but now here it is. And we hope you guys like it. Because you're awesome and make us look good when you like stuff we do.

  • What hasn’t changed The commitment to providing people with short, info-packed bites that provide quick insight into the day’s news. Most of the post styles are still exactly the same as they were on day one of the site. Oh, and Julius is still the mascot. (And one of the trademarks, referring to the site in the “editorial we,” continues unabated.) source

  • What has changed Over the last ten months, it’s become clear what’s worked and what hasn’t, and what was needed to take that basic idea and turn it into something more useful for readers. So with that, we’re adding focus on navigation, improving our content focus and pushing a design that encourages exploration. Read more above. source

Culture: Ricardo Autobahn takes the Girl Talk mashup concept to a new level

  • Here’s a fun game: Watch this music video – built from clips from TV shows and movies – and spend hours figuring out what pop culture clips this clever bastard (who goes by Ricardo Autobahn) used. It’s like Girl Talk for movies, except significantly more cerebral. source

Culture: Mind-blowing: Christopher Walken reads Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”

  • This may in fact be the best thing Christopher Walken has done since “More Cowbell.” We realize that’s a high watermark, but he sounds AMAZING in this clip.source

Music: Ghostface Killah is officially the spookiest Wu-Tang Clan member

  • Ghostface Killah has never fought Midget Kiss. But based on how he told the story of how he ALMOST did, we’re sure it’d be pretty fracking awesome. It’s easily as scary as any story the dude told on “Fishscale.” Happy early Halloween, guys.source
