Politics: Max Headroom: John Avlon’s a crackpot, according to crackpots

  • Pot, meet kettle While Harold Ford, Jr. is guilty of nothing but idiocy, it’s certainly a symptom of what is leading to the insane controversy around New York Gov. David Paterson. Ford says Paterson should resign. Because, clearly, Harold Ford Jr. is the right guy to offer this advice.
  • Not very expert-like On “Fox News Sunday,” Chris Wallace deservedly calls neocon icon Bill Kristol an expert at Iraqi foreign policy when asking who he thinks the U.S. would prefer as prime minister. Kristol’s answer? He doesn’t know. Way to prove your theory wrong, Chris.
  • “Hatriot” Games One of Anderson Cooper’s guests in the wake of the Pentagon shooting, John Avlon, came up with the term “Hatriot” to describe the crazy cropping up. Irony: Avlon is being called a crazy by the 9/11 Truther movement, despite making sense in this clip.

U.S.: Could the White House push for Khalid Shaikh Mohammed military trial?

  • We are evaluating based on New York City logistical and security concerns on trial in federal courts.
  • White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs • Regarding what’s turning out to be a bit of a boondoggle for the administration, where to try 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. At first, they wanted to try him in a New York civilian court, where they ran into heavy NIMBYism. (Honestly, they’d probably run into it anywhere with this case.) But now it looks like they’re changing their mind. Probably for the best. source

U.S.: That Texas Governor’s primary race not looking very close anymore

  • 40%+ Rick Perry’s recent poll numbers; he’s seeking an unprecedented fourth term
  • 30%+ Kay Bailey Hutchison’s numbers; she’s been portrayed by Perry as a Washington insider
  • 10%+Debra Medina’s poll numbers; she’s flopped ever since she hinted she was a 9/11 Truther source

Politics: Debbie Medina hoping she can bounce back from Glenn Beck flop

  • This is war. They don’t shoot at you until you are over the target. We are over the target.
  • Far-right Texas gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina • Regarding the race and the fact that she said something incredibly stupid to Glenn Beck. Medina has been trying to do damage control ever since that fateful Thursday radio show. But if she can get beyond it, she has a lot going for her. She’s actually to the right of Rick Perry, which is impressive, and her poll numbers are high enough to make a dent. We’ll see if she holds up – her quote exposing her as a 9/11 truther is a massive doozy. source

Offbeat: On-the-job-training: 911 dispatcher saves his own baby son

  • He was in training mode, and rocked it. Lacey, Wash. 911 dispatcher Chris Scott got a chance to practice being cool under pressure when his wife, Janna, came on the other line because his 6-month-old son, Jacob, was choking. One thing that helped was that Chris didn’t completely realize it was his wife. Even so, the Marine reservist just back from Iraq successfully guided Janna through the process. Not bad. source

U.S.: Obama: Maybe having the 9/11 trial in Manhattan a bad idea

  • NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg isn’t on board anymore. Months after planning to have the trial for 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (a.k.a. Mr. Bedhead) in Manhattan, local pressure is causing the Obama administration to reconsider its plan. “Conversations have occurred within the administration to discuss contingency options should the possibility of a trial in Lower Manhattan be foreclosed upon by Congress or locally,” said one official under an anonymous cloak. Many New York politicians have criticized the idea. source

Offbeat: Perhaps this class shirt that goes to 11 should be reconsidered

  • That’s not offensive at all! Students at Edsel Ford High in Dearborn, Mich. (which is largely made of Arab-American students) thought that this shirt portrayed a brave face, a show of strength. Instead, it drew instant scorn from school officials and just about everyone else. We can’t quite pinpoint what it is, but we think it has something to do with the bird. Let’s just put this in the “nice try” bin and go back to the drawing board, OK? source

Music: Public Enemy vindicated in a Washington Post correction

  • A Nov. 26 article in the District edition of Local Living incorrectly said a Public Enemy song declared 9/11 a joke. The song refers to 911, the emergency phone number.
  • A Washington Post correction that ran yesterday. The correction, currently the No. 5 article on WashingtonPost.com, is hilarious because it mistook Public Enemy’s “911 Is a Joke,” which predated 9/11 by over a decade, as a 9/11 truther anthem. *forehead slap* (hat tip @ohmgee) source
