They expected trouble. They didn’t get it. Dealing with sharp objects, trying to fix a telescope in the middle of space, wearing those freaking suits, possibly getting hit with space junk – there were a lot of pitfalls in trying to fix the Hubble Space Telescope. But despite the massive length of time – six hours and 36 minutes – they did it easily. Great job guys! And when you’re done with that, we need some repairs for our apartment. source
There are three troubling highlights to this video. At 0:52, the suspect surrenders. At 0:55, a cop kicks the suspect in the head for no reason. At 1:27, two cops give each other high-fives. Hm.source
There are few things that are more rewarding than to watch young people recognize that they have the power to make their dreams come true. And you did just that.
First lady Michelle Obama • Giving a commencement speech to the first graduating class of the University of California, Merced, which is the newest school in the University of California system. Students and their families lobbied Obama to show up and give a speech, and she proved that her heart is not made of stone. See, students, dreams do come true! (This is way more uplifting that this drama.) • source
In one swift move, Obama both backtracks on a major campaign promise to change the way the United States fights terrorism and undermines the nation’s core respect for the rule of law.
Amnesty International executive director Larry Cox • On one of Obama’s most unpopular decisions thus far, after, you know, getting a dog. Seriously, it seems like very few liberal-leaning groups dig this decision. LIBERAL RAGE! ROAR! • source
Background Bush got the drama police on his back because of the harsh interrogation techniques his administration used on Guantanamo Bay detainees. Obama said he would kill them off as a campaign promise. Liberal-leaning groups supported him. source

What’s next? Today Obama announced that his administration would revive the tribunals – with significant changes. Harsh interrogation techniques wouldn’t be used, they’d be only used for the 13 Sept. 11 suspects in custody, but with more rigid legal protections in place. source

But why? The likely root cause for the backtrack is the need for congressional support. Obama hopes to have legislation signed by the time a freeze on the cases expires. D.C. legislators like this just a wee bit more than Amnesty International. source
