Culture: Dear anonymous sources: Please don’t anger Sarah Palin

  • This is the torrent of rage that builds up when you piss sarah Palin off: “I suppose I could play their immature, unprofessional, waste-of-time game, too, by claiming these reporters and politicos are homophobe, child molesting, tax evading, anti-dentite, puppy-kicking, chain smoking porn producers…really, they are… I’ve seen it myself…but I’ll only give you the information off-the-record, on deep, deep background; attribute these ‘facts’ to an ‘anonymous source’ and I’ll give you more.” Yikes. We’re scared. *cower* source

Politics: Anderson Cooper on oil spill media zones: He sounds angry

  • Know what’s been missing from CNN all these months? Stuff like this. The network’s real problem is not that it doesn’t have yakkers, but its model has become tired and unemotional. And you can hear it in Cooper’s voice here. He’s super-emotional, in a “mad as hell and can’t take it anymore” sorta way. Give us a reason to care, CNN, and we’ll come back.

The guy on the TV looks pretty angry. If you look at the soldiers, ten to one, also angry. If you look at North Korean soldiers right now, they’re probably angry too. source

U.S., World: Perhaps Obama should’ve been in Copenhagen longer than a day

  • We are running short on time. And at this point, the question is whether we will move forward together, or split apart. Whether we prefer posturing to action.
  • Barack Obama • Trying to set a mood at the Copenhagen climate change summit, which has fallen over on itself in a mess of infighting, criticism and so on and so forth. The Guardian seems to play it off as a terrible speech that promised little, though we’ve seen few places that agree with them so far. In other news, China isn’t offering much of anything either. source

Offbeat: The ongoing war against gingers continues in the U.K.

  • The more I thought about it, the more annoyed I got and I told the lady who worked in the store I was not happy.
  • Concerned British mother Davinia Phillips • On her anger at a Christmas card, sold at at least two Tesco stores, which featured the tagline, “Santa loves all kids. Even ginger ones.” Which is more than a little hairist. What you got against freckles? source

Tech: Give Jason Scott a high-five for his hard work saving Geocities

  • You’re stupid and I hate you. I haven’t even met you, don’t even know where you are or what else you do, and I hate you. … This has to have been one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done, and it’s your fault.
  • Geocities archivist Jason Scott • On his frustration with Yahoo over their closing of the iconic site. He notes the company’s shortsightedness in taking a historic service and throwing it out the window – and worse, not helping Scott’s Archive Team with the process. The message, in our view is epic and vitriolic. As it should be. Our favorite part: “So now in two days you’re going to shut this place down, this collection of genealogy and pages by people who’ve died and collections of writing and art and music and you’re going to turn it into dust because Carol Bartz said Yahoo needed to save a few bucks.” Throw this guy $25 so he can keep doing what he’s doing. He deserves it. • source

U.S.: Dick Cheney’s about to tell us how he really feels about Bush

  • It was clear that Cheney’s doctrine was cast-iron strength at all times – never apologize, never explain – and Bush moved toward the conciliatory.
  • A colleague of Dick Cheney • Discussing Cheney’s thoughts on his former boss, George W. Bush. According to the colleague, Cheney was upset that, at some point, Bush took to heart public criticism and stopped listening to his advice. While Cheney has spent much of the last few months in the public eye, taking Barack Obama to task on his foreign policy, Cheney’s been working on a memoir airing the dirty laundry between the two men. Expect it to be out in 2011. We hope there’s multiple chapters about the time he shot that dude in the face. • source
