Tech: Bloggers who get bored leave a trail of broken dreams behind

  • I was always hoping more people would read it, and it would get a lot of comments. Every once in a while I would see this thing on TV about some mommy blogger making $4,000 a month, and thought, ‘I would like that.’
  • Judy Nichols • Who ran a site called “Rantings of a Crazed Soccer Mom” before she got bored because nobody was actually visiting her site. Nichols isn’t alone by a long shot. 95% of blogs get ditched for similar reasons, or because their authors get too busy. In case you’re wondering, that won’t happen to us. We spend too much time on this to get rid of it. • source

Politics, Tech: AT&T is really dropping the ball when it comes to the iPhone

  • It was even apparent during the keynote yesterday that Apple sounds pretty disgusted with how far behind AT&T is dragging them. Notice the absence of any AT&T personnel on stage.
  • TUAW contributor Megan Lavey • On the Apple iPhone 3GS launch, which had all these new features – tethering and MMS, two things that a lot of phones on AT&T’s network already do – that weren’t available in the U.S. due to the carrier. Lavey goes further to say why AT&T will regret this: “Apple won’t forget that AT&T didn’t have key features in place when they needed to be there.” • source

  • OK, we get it. Touchscreens. Ooh. App store. Whatever. But really, couldn’t you have done something even better with it than make it a faster and give it a cool new camera? Evolutionary, not revolutionary.source

Biz, Tech: Why do some corporate web sites look like giant clusterducks?

americanairlines0607
  • After graphic designer Dustin Curtis took American Airlines to task for having a terribly-designed site, an interface designer for the airline claimed it wasn’t his fault, but a horrendously broken corporate structure. (And yes, we used “clusterducks” in the headline on purpose.)source

Tech: New status icon for celebrity Twitter users: Verified accounts

  • With due respect to the man and his notable work, Mr. La Russa’s lawsuit was an unnecessary waste of judicial resources bordering on frivolous. Twitter’s Terms of Service are fair and we believe will be upheld in a court that will ultimately dismiss Mr. La Russa’s lawsuit.
  • Twitter co-founder Biz Stone • In response to a lawsuit filed by St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa about a faked account which the site already removed. They will not settle and will fight the case in court if necessary. Stone did take the opportunity, however, to tell people about Twitter’s new verified account program, which will only take a few people at first but over time will expand and include more notable users and, down the road, businesses. Here’s our question. Can you bling the verified account tag? • source
