World: Did the Daily Mail hack Hugh Grant’s phone, too?

  • I cannot for the life of me think of any source for these stories in the Mail on Sunday except my voicemail messages.
  • Hugh Grant • Accusing the Daily Mail of hacking his cell phone. Remember News of the World? Well, the Daily Mail took a page out of their book, according to Grant (who’s built a rep for being a phone-hacking crusader). He is claiming that they hacked into his voicemail for a 2007 story; it may have been done by a private investigator once used by News of the World until his termination in 2006. Of course The Mail “utterly refutes Grant’s claim that they got any story as a result of phone hacking.” Perhaps they’ve cried wolf just too many times. source

Culture: Let’s change the subject, for kicks: J. Lo and Bradley Cooper eat DINNER.

  • Can celebrities just be friends? Apparently not. Jennifer Lopez and Bradley Cooper were seen having dinner together this weekend in Toronto. Sparks were flying and chemistry abounded. This could be some sort of PR stunt. It could be the start of a relationship, maybe. She could be Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper. Or, it could just be pretty people enjoying each other’s friendship. Who are we to judge? And how do we manage to transition from a night filled with politics to celebrity gossip? We don’t know how we do it. source

Culture: Celebrities are just like us: You know, heroes!

  • winslet Actress Kate Winslet stayed at Richard Branson’s (founder of the Virgin Group) this past weekend. While she was there, a fire broke out on the Caribbean compound. Winslet carried his 90-year-old mother to safety. What a woman!
  • gosling While walking down a New York City street, Ryan Gosling happened upon a squabble. Men were fighting over a painting; naturally, Gosling stepped in to break it up. Be sure to watch the video to watch the men in action. source

Culture: OJ’s confession is just a dream of Oprah’s, not reality

  • claim Some sources (looking at you, ever-trustworthy Daily Mail) have reported that Oprah landed the ultimate PR stunt for her new network — a confession from OJ Simpson in the 1994 murder of his wife. We posted this earlier, but admit that we took it with a pretty big grain of salt.
  • denial A rep for the talk show icon denied the story not long after, however. Though she hasn’t gotten Simpson to confess, it’s a dream of hers — she said as much at an awards ceremony last week. She’s still waiting, but she knows exactly where to find the ex-football star — he’s sitting in prison. source

Culture, Tech: The newest coolness barometer: a fake Twitter account

  • no socializing tonight. I’m trying to get inside my own head. I hate the new film. I need to work on something on my own. I’m not just meat.
  • The @FakeChrisBale Twitter account • Regarding the actor’s “thoughts.” Bale, along with a who’s who of celebrities and politicians, have fake accounts dedicated to them. We guess that’s the new sign that you’ve made it to the big times…even if it’s not *always* flattering. Prime example: @notbillclinton exclaiming “Happy Mother’s Day to all the MILF’s!” • source

Tech: New status icon for celebrity Twitter users: Verified accounts

  • With due respect to the man and his notable work, Mr. La Russa’s lawsuit was an unnecessary waste of judicial resources bordering on frivolous. Twitter’s Terms of Service are fair and we believe will be upheld in a court that will ultimately dismiss Mr. La Russa’s lawsuit.
  • Twitter co-founder Biz Stone • In response to a lawsuit filed by St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa about a faked account which the site already removed. They will not settle and will fight the case in court if necessary. Stone did take the opportunity, however, to tell people about Twitter’s new verified account program, which will only take a few people at first but over time will expand and include more notable users and, down the road, businesses. Here’s our question. Can you bling the verified account tag? • source
