Sports: Another MLB player gets in trouble over steriods

  • I apologize. I know it was a mistake. I take responsibility. I am very sorry this happened. I’m sorry to my family, to Congress, to the Houston Astros and to the Major Leagues.
  • Miguel Tejada • a Houston Astros star who plead guilty today on charges of lying to congressional staffers about the steroid use of one of his teammates. Tejada did not admit to using steroids himself, however. He could be sentenced to as much as a year in prison but his sentence will likely be much slimmer. • source

Sports: Compare and contrast: How three MLB stars handled steroid allegations

  • Barry Bonds He continued his major league career, ignored the allegations, set a home run record many fans consider invalid while the rest of his team struggled, and has spent much of the last year in court. source

  • Roger Clemens He stopped his many-year trend of showing up to training camp somewhere and possibly playing in June if he felt like it. But he didn’t admit anything, despite a massive report that mentions his name more than anyone else’s. source

Sports: A-Rod & steroids: The man knows his PR crisis management

  • I’m finally beginning to grow up. I’m pretty tired of being stupid and selfish, you know, about myself. The truth needed to come out a long time ago. I’m glad it’s coming out today.

Sports: A-Rod: The Yankees’ problem for nine more years

  • Is that a good thing? Alex Rodriguez, an amazingly-gifted baseball player, has also been a thorn in the New York Yankees’ side for a while already due to off-field drama. And he’s going to be there until at least 2018, when he’s old and (possibly) fat. The slugger, who was recently pinpointed as testing positive for steroids during his 2003 MVP season, will cost the Yankees as much as $300 million. And that contract’s so big that he’s basically untradeable. Good for him! source

Sports: Life can be unfair sometimes: LeBron James loses his triple-double

  • One of the rebounds wasn’t his. The Cleveland Cavaliers star’s most recent triple-double, against the Knicks on Wednesday, was a show-stopper – he had 52 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Well, that is, until the league gave one of those rebounds to teammate Ben Wallace after a review of the game. It would’ve been the first 50-point triple-double since 1975 had it stood. Do you always have to kill the fun, NBA? source

Sports: Michael Phelps: USA Swimming was right to punish me

  • I have nothing to say, but if that’s they want to do, that’s their choice. It’s something that USA Swimming came up with. It’s fair. Obviously, for a mistake you should get punished.
  • Michael Phelps • On the three-month suspension from competition that USA Swimming gave him last night. Phelps has had a bit of a PR nightmare on his hands after he was caught smoking a bong in a photo. Hopefully he doesn’t lose any more sponsors. • source

Sports: How notable is Pat Summit’s college coaching feat?

  • She’s better than everyone, even the guys. Summit, Tennessee’s longtime coach, is the first person – male or female – to hit 1,000 wins in coaching college basketball. The next closest is Bob Knight, who got to 900 wins in more time (and by throwing more chairs) than it took Summit. It’s a fact not lost on her. “Wow,” Summit said after winning. “This may be a little hard for me.” source
