Sports: Was A-Rod dishonest about his steroid usage? Manboobs say yes.

  • He had a profane nickname in the clubhouse a while back. Baseball’s highest-paid player, Alex Rodriguez, may have been using steroids much longer than he admitted a couple of months ago, the New York Daily News reports. They claim, via Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts (who broke the A-Rod steroid scandal in the first place) that Rodriguez was using as far back as high school and as recently as a Yankee. Rodriguez, in 2005, apparently carried a nickname around the clubhouse after he apparently grew manboobs, which may be a hint as to his steroid usage. Either way, it’s the NYDN, so take it with a grain of salt. source

Sports: A-Rod’s hip, on top of the steroid saga, is making his life suck

  • Surgery on Monday. Dude’s out 6-9 weeks. Alex Rodriguez has had a pretty crappy last 30 days or so. And the topper is the hip. Initially thought to just be a cyst, he also has a torn labrum and will be out for a while recovering from arthroscopic hip surgery, which he’ll have on Monday. No word on whether he’ll blame his cousin for the hip injury. source

Sports: A bitter person would say A-Rod’s cyst was caused by steroids

  • Alex has proven his durability throughout his career, and we will take every precaution and step necessary to ensure his health as we near the start of the 2009 regular season and beyond.
  • Brian Cashman • Yankees general manager, on Alex Rodriguez’s new problem – a freaking cyst in his hip. That doesn’t sound like fun, man. But then, your last month hasn’t been much fun. • source

Sports: Psst. Hey A-Rod. It’s the MLB. We need to talk.

  • The tension in that room oughta be fun. The MLB Player’s Association recently got wind that the league’s investigative department wants to speak with Yankee Alex Rodriguez about a couple of things regarding that whole steroids incident. While it will be non-disciplinary in nature, it certainly doesn’t sound like much fun. source

Sports: Compare and contrast: How three MLB stars handled steroid allegations

  • Barry Bonds He continued his major league career, ignored the allegations, set a home run record many fans consider invalid while the rest of his team struggled, and has spent much of the last year in court.
  • Roger Clemens He stopped his many-year trend of showing up to training camp somewhere and possibly playing in June if he felt like it. But he didn’t admit anything, despite a massive report that mentions his name more than anyone else’s.
  • Alex RodriguezHe admitted almost immediately after the news came out. He’s going to have a career after this. Good on him. source
