Politics: Michael Steele: Will Mr. Delusional run for RNC Chair again?

  • That look in Michael Steele’s eyes? Some might call it “deer in headlights.” We call it “ignorance to the gravity of his situation.” Anyway, the man of Steele, who has led the RNC through its most embarrassing period in ages, will be announcing his future plans today. Our money is on him being so oblivious to his unpopularity among Republicans (especially for his fiscal skills, which are pretty much the key part of running the RNC) that he’ll run again. And honestly, we hope he does. We love the sound of a good trainwreck. source

Politics: Max Headroom: Shepard Smith calls Obama “Omaba” somehow

  • “Anonymous” goes mainstream: Remember when “Anonymous” was simply a joke on the Internet that most people didn’t take seriously? It’s been a long time since those days. Now, we have “Operation Payback” (an offshoot of whatever “Anonymous” is) showing up as the number one item on “Countdown.” It’s a fascinating time we live in where something that started out as an apparent internet joke can actually raise some eyebrows. Our question: Will future attacks be scare tactics, like shutting down Mastercard and Visa? Or will they go for the jugular, like the massive hacking attack that tore through Gawker today?
  • Great Washington Theater The thing that we enjoyed the most about Friday’s ad-hoc press conference at the White House on Friday? We got to see a cheery, almost casual approach by both Obama and Bill Clinton. That said, guys like Anthony Weiner (part of the panel) aren’t having it. He backs Clinton while questioning Obama.
  • “Omaba”: A one-term president? We love when our boy Shepard Smith makes on-air mistakes. They’re always supremely entertaining – including the epic clip where he suggested Jennifer Lopez couldn’t get a blowjob block party in her old neighborhood. In this case, he called Obama “Omaba,” which is such a bizarre mistake to make.

Politics: Ten years ago today, the chads stopped hanging in Florida

  • So guys, remember ten years ago, when our country was so divided that we had to debate how stupid Florida’s ballots were? You probably don’t, because ten years of drama has happened since then, but today marks the tenth anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision that gave George W. Bush the electoral college win – and led to his two twisted terms. It’s a reminder that no matter how far we’ve come since then, the partisan bickering never really went away. source

Politics: Obama tax compromise: Democrats resigned to its eventual passing

  • We’re not going to hold this thing up at the end of the day.
  • Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen • Admitting what’s been obvious from the outset – the Obama tax compromise will eventually pass. The GOP knows this. Obama knows this, and House Democrats, who perhaps have been most dead-set against it (barring Bernie Sanders) are starting to turn around and begrudgingly accept it. By offering up the compromise he did when he did, Obama knew what he was doing. source

Politics: Here’s Obama’s tactical strategy for the tax compromise

  • So, how does Obama expect the tax compromise to pass? According to David Axelrod (who spoke on CNN’s “State of the Union” today), it’ll go a little like this: First, the Senate will take up the compromise Monday, written in such a way that it’ll probably pass there (barring more awesome Bernie Sanders filibusters). Then … well, we’ll let David finish this: “We believe that when it comes back to the House, that we will get a vote, and that we’ll prevail there.” So, long story short – the Obama administration expects one chamber to fall, and when that one does, so will the other one. source

Politics: “No Labels”: The center, annoyed by the election, goes Tea Party

  • You screw over the moderates, they’re gonna organize. That appears to be the message of “No Labels,” a new citizen-focused political group that includes such spurned political figures as Michael “Moderate God” Bloomberg, “Morning” Joe Scarborough, Mike “screwed by Christine O’Donnell” Castle, Charlie “screwed by Marco Rubio” Crist and Evan “I’ve had enough of this crap so I’m quitting the Senate” Bayh among its ranks. Each of those guys will be taking part in the webcast the group will use to launch its platform: “Not left. Not right. Forward.” We expect the partisans (on both sides) to dismiss this crazy idea in 3 … 2 … 1 … source

Politics: Terrible idea in retrospect: Richard Nixon saying racist things on tape

  • My own view is I think he’s right if you’re talking in terms of 500 years. I think it’s wrong if you’re talking in terms of 50 years. What has to happen is they have be, frankly, inbred. And, you just, that’s the only thing that’s going to do it, Rose.
  • Former president Richard Nixon • Talking on his just-released audio files about black people. Does that sound racist to you? Well, that’s because it’s pretty racist-sounding. It’s one line from 265 hours worth of tapes, and since we know you’re not going to dig through all of them, let this be the main message you take from these tapes: Nixon taped himself saying racist things. On tape. (And he says worse things abut Jews.) source

Politics: Is Obama learning the martial art of Bill Clinton’s triangulation?

  • So, another theory on this whole tax cut thing – Obama’s taking a cue from Bill Clinton on that whole “trangulation” thing he did in the ’90s – where Clinton gave the GOP some of what they wanted but ended up helping himself in the long run. It’s a theory that the White House bristles at, but the video above, where Bill Clinton essentially took over for Obama today, looks kind of symbolic. Beyond the fact that it’s effing hilarious. source

Politics: Bernie Sanders’ filibuster: The Senate gets interesting for a day

  • 516 number of minutes Bernie Sanders and others filibustered in the Senate today (from 10:24 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.)
  • no Sanders’ filibuster, fun as it was to watch, didn’t affect any votes from happening today source
