  • We have determined the the pictures taken are fine.

Culture: We hate Carrie Prejean. Will they please take away her crown?

  • Carrie’s fate rests in the hands of Donald Trump. Despite the fact that Trump is famous for firing people, he’s shown a little bit of compassion for pageant winners. Miss California Carrie Prejean, however, is a mess unto herself, the perfect combination of liar, activist and PR nightmare that could be enough to convince the Donald to get rid of her. Fortunately, Tami Farrell, the Miss California runner-up, has been doing most of Prejean’s job already since Prejean’s been too busy fighting gay marriage. source

Culture, Music: Bad Seed Nick Cave once wrote a crazy “Gladiator” sequel

  • Storytelling, [it] works brilliantly. I think [Cave] enjoyed doing it, and I think it was one of those things that he thought, ‘Well, maybe there’s a sequel where we can adjust the fantasy and bring [Maximus] back from the dead.’
  • Director Ridley Scott • Discussing Nick Cave’s rejected “Gladiator 2” script, commissioned by “Gladiator” star Russell Crowe. Cave, better known for songs such as “The Mercy Seat” and “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” had a major challenge – create a sequel for a film whose main character died at the end of the movie. He solved it by going in crazy directions – making Maximus live forever through reincarnation, playing a part in World War II and showing up in the Pentagon. This sounds amazing. • source

Biz, Culture: How the KFC/Oprah free chicken thing blew up in KFC’s face

  • After famously being known as a source of fattening fried chicken, KFC launches a new brand of grilled chicken. source
  • To convince people to give them a chance and rethink the brand, KFC puts a free chicken coupon on their Web site. source
  • KFC then promotes the deal on Oprah’s kingmaking TV show, causing huge visibility and demand for the coupons. source
  • The coupons get redeemed en masse, creating huge lines at the restaurants that were way bigger than they anticipated. source
  • After being unable to keep up with the demand, KFC canceled the offer, pissing people off. Idiots. source

Culture, Politics: Comment: Rihanna and the way the human mind works

  • A good number of people have been disappointed by us today. Why? Because they found our site on Google using the phrase “Rihanna nude.” Now, it’s bad enough that the pop star is now all over the Internet in nude poses, but considering the amount of bad buzz following the star this year, it does scream a degree of kicking someone while they’re down. But much like Paris Hilton a few years ago, a bunch of guys (and hey, maybe girls) are looking for purely exploitative kicks. Not to criticize too harshly, but aren’t there other things you could be looking for on the Internet instead? source
