See that giant red spot, showing widespread usage? That’s China. You know, beyond awareness campaigns, Microsoft could do more to get people to stop using IE6. They’re not doing enough, really. source

  • problem People in China are getting inspired by the wave of Middle East protests and – in small pockets, mind you – attempting protests of their own. China is hard-core communist and limits free information, so this is a problem.
  • solution An editorial! Today in the Beijing Daily (run by the Chinese Communist Party), a front-page editorial suggested that “the vast majority of the people are strongly dissatisfied” by the protests in the Middle East. You sure? source

World: Hugo Chavez gains support for mission to Libya, wants all-star team

  • What do Jimmy Carter, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Danny Glover and Sean Penn have in common? Word is that they’re on Hugo Chavez’s short list of a commission to go to LIbya to mediate peace. Confused about how Danny Glover fits into that mix? Well, it’s worth pointing out that Chavez is friends with Glover and has even offered money to help pay to make a Danny Glover movie. Anyway, Chavez earned some key local support for his endeavor from ALBA, or the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our Americas. (The countries in the group include Bolivia, Nicaragua, Honduras and Ecuador, and the group itself was founded by Chavez.) Hugo’s all about making this happen. “We must make a very large effort, very large. We cannot lose even one day,” he said. source

World: Yemeni leader Ali Abdullah Saleh: I’m not leaving until 2013, guys

  • The peaceful and smooth transition of power is not carried out through chaos but through the will of the people expressed through elections.
  • An official for Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh • Explaining that Saleh will not leave his post until at least 2013, continuing to anger the people who oppose his continuing rule. Protests against Saleh, however, keep getting stronger – on Friday, 100,000 people reportedly showed up in Sanaa alone, and thousands of others showed up in numerous other cities in the region. With such a strong groundswell of popular dissent, how long is Saleh going to keep this up, anyway? source

Politics: Obama meets Jeb Bush: Not as successful as it could’ve been

  • As surreal moments go, Obama chillin’ with Jeb Bush in Miami on the education tip could have been a pretty cool one. We think he probably wins some points with the moderates for being willing to give a Bush – and not the unpopular one – the time of day. Unfortunately, it was a moment with flaws – the meeting itself was a tad awkward. And a speech he gave afterwards (in which he mentioned the meeting) actually drew boos for the bipartisanship attempt. It was a calculated political move, yeah, but you have to give the man credit for trying. He’s had relatively little luck pushing through the right side of the aisle, and he made an effort yesterday. source

Nothing against the U.S. sentiments, but we’re pretty sure that this isn’t how it works. Running a country isn’t like letting a coupon expire. U.S.: Wes Leonard: A perfect season, a winning basket … then, tragedy.

  • That last shot Wes Leonard made? That was perhaps the greatest moment of a life that ended too soon. The Fennville, Mich. high-school basketball star made the winning basket in a game that led his team to an undefeated season. It was a great moment for a small town, but it was a victory that came with an unspeakable, unbelievable tragedy. Leonard collapsed and died soon after, a victim of cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart. A gut punch to say the least. Our heart goes out to his family and friends. source

Tech: Apple still doesn’t do streaming music yet, or why we miss Lala

  • issue Apple bought this really awesome company called Lala, then quickly killed it, making a few music fans (like us) start crying profusely. It killed a weekly music feature we had, quite sadly.
  • reason Well, Apple has a huge facility to allow this sort of streaming, but no streaming deals with the record labels – but they’re working on it. Note to Apple: Please make albums embeddable if this happens. source

  • » Focusing on the other victims: This time, the charges focus less on Gabrielle Giffords (the only wounded victim still in the hospital or in rehabilitation) and more on those killed or wounded in the attack. Some of the charges include murder charges in the death of a federal judge and congressional aide, as well as charges revolving around causing death or injury at a federally-provided event. Let’s be honest, though. No matter how many charges they nail him for – or at least try to – the fact of the matter is, he’ll be punished severely when he’s convicted.
