Politics: Post-midterms, Obama gets a big-up from the f-word

  • Obama’s been getting railed upon from all corners for a while now, but we have to admit that he seemed to handle his party’s lack of success yesterday fairly well today. He had a measured response to the questions he got at his press conference today, and didn’t get angry or testy at any point. Which for fans of the president is heartening. Also heartening is this site which has been all over our Facebook today. “What the fuck has Obama done so far?” A lot. A defensive measure so solid that you’d think that the site was produced by Obama’s staff, until you realize that the word “fuck” is right there in the URL. source

Culture: Thanks to Jodie Foster, we have Mel Gibson’s beaver shot

  • Mel Gibson’s latest role has been a tad delayed. Why, you ask? Well, he did a lot of pretty stupid things, and now he’s paying the price for them in the press. And so this film, directed by Jodie Foster from a fairly-well-regarded script, may not see the light of day for a while. But that somehow makes the poster for it funnier. Remember the days that Mel knew what women wanted? Yeah. Neither do we. (Thanks The Daily Whatsource

Politics: In Alaska, Scott McAdams may not have won, but he kinda did

  • People had to be convinced (Scott McAdams) could beat Joe Miller, and if he had two more weeks he could have done that. Scott would have won if Lisa hadn’t jumped in.
  • Alaska Democratic Party spokesperson Deborah Williams • Sounding bullish about Scott McAdams’ future success in Alaska politics. McAdams entered the Senate race with the mere intention of drawing attention towards his own political abilities, which the election did – and then some. Even though he lost Tuesday (unlike Joe Miller, he conceded to Lisa Murkowski already), his political stock went way up in a race which drew disproportionate amounts of attention thanks to the war of words between the other two candidates. “He could look at anything from state senator to governor to Congress,” Williams said. “He’s certainly got options.” See, being a third party to an unbelievably messy situation can be beneficial sometimes! source

Politics: Bipartisanship: Harry Reid promises things will be different this time

  • We know that the Republicans of this last Congress picked up the name ‘The Party of No.’ I think that Democrats have to work with Republicans, and Republicans have to work with Democrats. It’s not a one-sided deal.
  • Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid • Promising to offer more opportunities for collaboration with the more-evenly-divided Senate and Republican-leaning House. Reid continues: “We need to stop using words like ‘chastened’ and I think what we have to do is recognize that all of us, all of us who are going to be in Senate, have to work together. That’s the message from the American people.” There’s a difference between Harry saying it and it actually happening. Remember that, dudes. source
