- » Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, top Democrats have inexplicably decided not to vote on the Bush tax cuts before the midterm elections. Doing so would have been a sure-fire win, as it would have a) ended the Bush tax cuts, b) fired up the progressive base, and either c) extended the middle-class tax cuts, or d) forced Republicans to vote against extending the middle-class tax cuts. Those are all good things for the Democrats, yet true to their party’s name, they’ve decided to play it safe, and put the whole thing off until after the election. It’s almost as if they want to lose the House.
