Politics: Harry Reid’s survival tactic: He just plans to let Sharron Angle talk

  • Reid had no chance to win before. He has a shot to win now. He could still lose, but I have to say he is favored.
  • Nevada Republican Senate primary candidate Danny Tarkanian • Explaining why Sharron Angle has given Reid a chance to survive his primary. And Reid is taking full advantage: “Our focus groups that we’ve done, my staff tells me this — her statements, they can’t believe that anyone would say that,” Reid said. “That’s why most of our TV just has her talking.” Because you can’t top people saying stupid things as entertainment. source

Tech: Apple’s recent buy: What the heck is LiquidMetal, anyway?

  • As you can see, it’s not your average metal. The metal, which has glasslike properties, high flexibility and extreme toughness (and can easily be made en masse), was developed at the California Institute of Technology. It’s already used in the iPhone 3G and 3GS’ SIM remover, and is now alone, in the electronics sphere, thanks to an exclusive license with the company. Maybe Apple will cover their next iPhone in something other than glass. We can dream, can’t we? source

Tech: BlackBerry Torch getting torched for its low price; RIM complains

  • Sounds like somebody has a sore spot. Research in Motion is all like, “whatever,” regarding criticism of their BlackBerry Torch’s price point. Why? Well, they say they’ve done it for a lot of products. A spokeswoman claims that “obviously … common online pricing and promotional strategy that has been used with many other product introductions in the past.” Well, in a lot of ways, that makes it even worse, actually. You only sold 150,000 units with a $99 price point on Amazon at launch, considering the hyperbole you had going on? Sad. source

Politics: WTF: Keith Olbermann vs. Glenn Beck on “Ground Zero Mosque”

  • Not-so Kool Keith vents Keith Olbermann was very much in Edward R. Murrow mode for his “Ground Zero Mosque” special statement on Monday night, and while it was largely over-the-top, he made some good points, and an entertaining “This is America, dammit!” pitch for religious freedom.
  • Glenn guffaws, and then some Apparently, the only part of the entire twelve-minute statement Beck heard was the “This is America, Dammit!” part, because he kept replaying it over and over, and didn’t tackle the argument at all. He chose, instead, to ridicule Olbermann, saying nobody watches his show.

U.S.: Stupid punk iPad robbery/amputation suspect fails at plotting hits

  • awful The suspect in a Colorado iPad robbery, Brandon Darnell Smith, apparently pulled so hard that he ripped the victim’s pinky to the bone, later causing it to be amputated. the Which is unspeakably awful.
  • dumb Smith, who’s been in jail ever since, tried to send a letter to a friend ordering a hit on the victim. “I really need this otherwise it’s a wrap!! If you do this, case is dropped,” he wrote. That’s not how the criminal system works, idiot. source
