Music: We keep hearing the new Phoenix album rules. Judge for yourself.

  • All your dad’s kids’ favorite publications like Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, from Pitchfork to The Onion A.V. Club. And we like it too. These French guys came up with a solid pop album. But what do you think? Listen here. source

Tech: Again, MS is late to the game with its new Zune. Here’s why.

  • one Why would we want to listen to HD radio when we can stream stuff from the Internet?
  • two It refers to itself as having a HD display, but that display is smaller than the iPhone. *hmm*
  • three Just because a music player can connect to a video game system doesn’t mean it should.
  • four It supposedly has a Web browser, but if its name is “Internet Explorer,” no way Jose.
  • five Lauren probably wouldn’t want one because it’s trying too hard to be really hip. source

Biz, U.S.: The near-bankrupt General Motors is generally screwed

  • They failed to convince bondholders to convert their claims to stock. General Motors is a huge company and it’s the kind of company that should just not fail, ever, but unfortunately they may be past the point of no return. The corporation needed to convince 90% of bondholders that their valuable GM bonds could convert to valuable GM stock. Now, running low on options, they will probably run into the June 1 deadline head-first, like a car crashing into a building on purpose. Don’t you love this country? source

Politics, U.S.: Ah Rush, saying such soothing words about Sonia Sotomayor

  • Do I want her to fail? Yeah. Do I want her to fail to get on the court? Yes. She’d be a disaster on the court. Do I still want to Obama to fail as president? Yeah. … He’s going to fail anyway, but the sooner the better here so that as little damage can be done to the country.
  • Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh • Stuck between a rock and a hard place in criticism of Obama’s supreme court justice pick Sonia Sotomayor, who he called a “reverse racist.” The challenge that the GOP faces is that Hispanics make up a good portion of their base currently, and if they’re not careful, they could alienate them with their attacks. But Rush doesn’t care. Rush is Rush. • source

Biz, U.S.: Bank of America somehow raised a lot of money really fast

  • $33 billion Amount the U.S. government told Bank of America to raise after recent stress tests gave them failing marks
  • $26 billion Amount Bank of America has raised from investors since the stress test earlier this month. Not bad. source
