  • one Family Research Council leader Tony Perkins told people to stop donating to the RNC, calling them tone-deaf for their strip club drama.
  • two Sarah Palin requested that her name get taken off the speaker list for a RNC event near the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.
  • three If all that stuff isn’t bad enough for the RNC, a fund-raising mailer released by the group directed readers to a sex chat line. Oops.

Politics: RNC staffer: The buck stops at Michael Steele’s desk

  • This is a really bad distraction at a time when we have the Obama administration on the ropes and we are making great gains out. Among the rank and file, we now have attention diverted to this fiscal irregularity and this controversy.
  • RNC platform committee vice chairman Ken Blackwell • Regarding the controversy swirling around the Republican National Committee. Blackwell, who ran for Michael Steele’s job last year, says that Steele knows “the buck stops at his desk,” and needs to make sure that heads will roll. In other news, Jon Stewart gave The Daily Caller, which broke the scandal, a shout-out last night, with this bon mot: “The Web site Daily Caller, best known for being mentioned just now …” Stewart may not be aware that his former arch-nemesis, Tucker Carlson, runs the site, and is actually doing him proud. source

  • $0 amount DNC chair Tim Kaine and his staff spent on chartering planes during the whole year so far source
  • » Also, a shout-out: Kudos to The Daily Caller for your handling of this story, which includes far more tawdry, damaging facts than this one, although this is pretty damaging for the RNC. We like the way your journalism rolls.

  • $370,000 the amount RNC consultant Rob Bickhart has been paid since June – “more than the president,” as one critic of Bickhart’s notes
  • “fear” what the RNC got from Bickhart, who made a much-ridiculed fundraising slideshow which oddly compares Harry Reid to Scooby-Doo source

U.S.: Fun fact about RNC chair Michael Steele: He cowers quickly.

  • Two days ago: The day Rush Limbaugh gave a killer CPAC speech, the RNC chairman said something pretty harsh about the man of the moment: “Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh — his whole thing is entertainment. He has this incendiary — yes, it’s ugly.” He said this on, of all places, D.L. Hughley’s new CNN show.
  • Today: Man, he backed down like France in a World War. Today, in a phone interview, Steele was much less blunt about his words: “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.” Dude, you run a freaking political party and need to look strong. Need a hug? We give free hugs here. source

U.S.: Who won the RNC chairman job? Nobody.

  • There was no majority victor. The guy who got the closest was former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, who got 51 votes, but you need 85 to lead the Republican Party. The guy who’s currently the chair, Mike Duncan, only got 44, and as Bush’s handpicked choice during an era where George W. Bush was incredibly unpopular, he might have the stink on him which prevents him from keeping his job. They’ve already gone through three rounds of balloting. Maybe the fourth time’s the charm. source
